New to the 1176? Let's simplify the Ratio bottoms! 🎚️ Think of the Ratio as "how hard you hit the brakes." Low ratio (4:1) = Light braking. Keeps things smooth. High ratio (20:1) = Slamming the brakes. Total stop. My advice: For your first time using it on vocals, set it to 4:1, slow attack, fast release, and blend to taste. You can't go wrong! 🎤✨ #1176 #mixingtips #audioengineering #homestudio

What is the biggest drawback of analog mix mixing? Hands down for me it’s the recall for notes. I was at NAMM in 2020 right before Covid. I reached out to the avid crew at their station and told them about an idea I had to include JPEG pictures or PNG pictures in the comment section of the mixer window inside pro tools. I explained that I had acquired analog gear over the past 15 years or so, and it would be an easy way to take pictures and recall when clients had notes. The rep was kind enough to listen to my plea and explain there really wasn’t an easy way for them to do that within the software, but did mention there was a free plug-in called snapshot by @nonlethalapplications that would essentially allow you to store your pictures inside of a plug-in on your master bus. I had never heard of such a thing and was pleasantly surprised that there was no cost for the simple solution. Immediately upon return to the studio, I loaded it up in a session and have been using it ever since. I have tried all of the other options out there, including other companies that try to mimic the GUI of your hardware so you can place the settings exactly where you left them but this one is just fast and easy. All it requires is an AirDrop connection and an iPhone. If you are like me and love using analog gear in your mixes, but also hate tedious recall I think this is something you should check out. #analogmixing #recall #mixingmusic #tubegear #protools
Hey! Just want to share my bits on gain staging! (an important step to a great mix) You can download TBProAudio mvMeter 2 for free! Remember: average around 0 dBVu / -18 dBFS and keep peaks lower then -12 dBFS. Use clip gain to level your tracks. Want to see more tips like this? Before we had endless plugin folders, legendary engineers mixed some of the biggest records in history using nothing but the physical SSL 4000 E console. The Preamp adds that classic VCA grit and saturation right at the start of your chain. The EQ is known for its „Black Knob“ bite, it’s musical enough to fix problems or add aggressive character. The Dynamic section with a built-in compressor, gate, and expander can control transients and glue your mix together without ever leaving the interface. It’s not just a plugin, it’s a complete workflow. By using it on every track, you get that cohesive, „big studio“ sound that defined the 80s and 90s. #SSL4000E #MusicProduction #MixingTips #UniversalAudio #HomeStudio
Mastering plugins can get expensive fast, but you don’t actually need the $600+ tools to get a great result. If I had to pick one place to start, I’d look at Waves. Their mastering bundle covers a lot of ground, limiting, dynamic EQ, mid-side processing, and even tools like Curves Equator that can help manage resonance in a similar way to Soothe. Another one I’ve used a lot is bx_digital V3 from Plugin Alliance. Great for mid-side work, tonal shaping, and it gives you solid control in a mastering context. Also worth a look is T-RackS from IK Multimedia. You can use it as a full chain or just pick individual modules, and they run good sales pretty often. One practical tip, if budget is tight, just rent what you need for a month, finish the project, then cancel. You can always pick it back up when you need it again. At the end of the day, it’s not the plugin, it’s how you use it. #AcademyOfAudio #MusicProduction #MixingAndMastering #AudioEngineering #HomeStudio
