In a recent Parliamentary session 2 weeks back, I raised key concerns regarding the retrenchment process, following a multinational technology company’s exercise in Singapore. My question focused on how we can strengthen protocols to better manage such retrenchments, especially ensuring that unions receive earlier notice to support workers effectively. I also asked about steps to encourage transparency and structured dialogues between companies, employees, and unions, ensuring that workers’ interests are safeguarded even amidst business constraints.
Retrenchments can be a stressful experience, especially for the affected families in our community. That’s why it’s important for companies to maintain open communication with employees during such processes. By working closely with the unions and leveraging the Government’s guidelines, we can help ensure that our workers receive fair treatment and are provided with timely assistance to find new job opportunities. These measures play a crucial role in balancing a pro-business environment with strong worker protection in Singapore.
As your representative, I remain committed to advocating for policies that ensure the well-being of our workforce, and I will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Manpower to strengthen support for our residents. Together, we can build a resilient community that navigates these challenges effectively. 💪
