🍂Autumn marathon season is approaching and it will soon be taper time 🍂 I know this one might divide opinion… but I don’t think every marathon runner should aim to run the standard '32km' in training. There is no magic number. For some runners, absolutely. For others, less or more may be a better option. It depends on your experience, weekly mileage, goal time, how well you recover and how long you’ve been in training. What's your longest run pre marathon? 👇

Some of the greatest distance runners in history, from Sebastian Coe to Eliud Kipchoge, developed their speed in shorter races before excelling in longer ones. 🚫 A well-developed aerobic system is essential for distance running, but aerobic endurance alone isn’t enough. 🧠 Neuromuscular efficiency: If you’re a marathon runner, use 5K and 10K races to improve running efficiency. Training & racing fast recruits more muscle fibres, improving stride efficiency and reducing energy cost at slower speeds. Look at Eliud Kipchoge. He was a world-class 1500m, 3K, and 5K runner (3:33, 7:27, 12:46 PBs) before transitioning to the marathon, where his efficiency and speed reserve made him the greatest of all time. The one thing every marathon runner feels but never admits: Most runners never talk about this. You cross the finish line. 42km done. Crowds roaring. Strangers hugging you. Your whole body telling you that you just did something incredible. For a moment you feel on top of the world. And then it stops. The streets open back up. The cheering fades. And within hours you’re back to everyday life. Standing in the supermarket, legs completely destroyed, and nobody cares. No training plan. No race on the calendar. No reason to wake up at 5am anymore. The thing that consumed so much of your life is suddenly gone. #runlikethevind #pitchandrun #nycdragons #runner #nycmarathon
Top tips to WIN the Farmers Carry! 1. USE YOUR VOICE, people will most certainly be in the way, if you are moving with speed let the people in front know to get out of the way, if they don’t then charge like a rhino around them. 2. Corners are for SWINGING. You will lose all of your momentum on the corners due to having to turn… use the kettlebell weights to your advantage and swing them around the corner to carry some momentum. 3. High cadence baby steps - Holding 48kg you are not going to be able to run like a marathon runner… your legs should be moving as quick as they can go. 4. DO NOT DROP THE WEIGHTS - Trust me, I know how much it burns, but the quicker you go the quicker it’s over. 5. CHALK - It’s there for a reason, get that Iron grip around the kettlebell and hold on for dear life. #hyrox #hyroxtraining #hyroxworld #farmer #farmerscarry hyroxuk strength kettlebell runner runway
This is what no one tells you to bring to the start line but every marathon runner should. You’ve trained for months. You’ve got your wave time. Now don’t let bad prep ruin a strong race. Here’s exactly what to pack in your race day bag to feel calm, comfy, and ready for anything: 1. Old hoodie or jumper: You’ll be stood in the cold for 45+ mins. Warm = calm. Bin it just before the start (they’re donated!). 2. Bin bag / foil poncho: Sit on it. Wear it. Hide in it if needed. Marathon day weather is unpredictable. 3. Toilet roll or tissues: Because there’s always one loo with zero paper. Don’t risk it. 4. Spare socks + sliders/trainers: Your feet will be done. Trust me changing shoes post-race = elite behaviour. 5. Portable phone charger: Tracking + photos + Spotify = 1% battery 6. Actual snacks: Not gels. Post race, you want salt, sugar, joy. Think Haribo, crisps, chocolate. 7. Suncream: Even if it’s cloudy. Shoulders, nose, and neck are out there for hours. 8. Body wipes or deodorant: For you. And for anyone who has to hug you. 9. Painkillers + plasters: Blisters, DOMS, or that rogue toenail. Be prepared. 10. A warm top for after: Post-race chills hit hard. Don’t stand around shivering. 11. Written meet-up plan on Hand Signal will fail. Your brain will be mush. Future you will thank you. Save this list. Tag your race buddy. And comment with your ride or die marathon bag essential. The start line is chaos. Your kit bag shouldn’t be. #LondonMarathon2025 #MarathonPackingList #RaceDayChecklist #RunnerProblems #ThingsRunnersSay TeamTap RunningCoachUK 26PointFreaking2 CoachMegSaidSo
Running watch tan? 9 toenails? That’s how to spot a marathon runner out in the wild 😂
My body isn’t built to fit your expectations. It’s built to carry me 26.2 miles. I got this message in my DMs today… A stranger looked at my body and decided it didn’t look like a marathon runner. “How can you run with such large limbs? That’s a lot of poundage to carry.” Here’s the thing... I’ve run four marathons and over a dozen half marathons. I’ve qualified for goals I once thought were impossible. I’ve trained through early mornings, grief, fear, self-doubt, and hundreds of miles. And not once has my body needed anyone else’s permission to cross a finish line. The running community is filled with every body type imaginable. Tall. Short. Lean. Curvy. Muscular. Thin. Young. Old. There isn’t one “runner’s body.” There are only bodies that run. So if you’ve ever felt like you didn’t look the part, let this be your reminder: Your body is not the obstacle. Your belief that it has to look a certain way is. Run anyway. Lift anyway. Show up anyway. Because the finish line doesn’t care what your legs look like. It only knows they got you there. #allrunnersarerunners #marathontraining #motherrunner
3 self-tests I get every marathon runner to do before they start a block. 1️⃣ Single leg calf raise — under 20 reps a side? Fix this first. 2️⃣ Single leg glute bridge hold: under 30 seconds a side, or one side weaker? Fix this first. 3️⃣ Single leg sit to stand: can’t get to 12 a side, no hands? Fix this first. Save this and test yourself before your next block. #physiotherapy #run #runner #running #marathontraining
Hi, I’m Natalie, a plant-based Sports Dietitian, marathon runner and the founder of Greenletes. 🌱 My mission is to help everyday athletes fuel their fitness with plants without sacrificing performance. Plant-based eating is growing fast in the athletic world, but doing it well takes more than swapping chicken for tofu. I work with runners and active adults to dial in energy, protein, carbs, and recovery so they can train hard, feel strong, and actually enjoy what they’re eating. If you want to eat more plants and excel in your sport, you’re in the right place. Hit the follow button for plant-based fueling that works for real athletes.
Identity expansion > image maintenance For most of my life, I was a footballer. If you do something every single day, it naturally becomes part of your identity. And when people know you as one thing for long enough, it becomes easy to believe you have to stay that way. But it’s a trap. Without realising it, that identity becomes a box. So instead of expanding who we are, we maintain the image of who we’ve always been. I think that’s one of the biggest limitations we put on ourselves. When football ended, I didn’t know what came next. I knew I wanted to help people. I wanted to build something meaningful and live life on my own terms. But I quickly realised that, to become the version I wanted to become, I needed new skills I didn’t have! That’s the part of reinvention nobody talks about. If you’ve never run before, you probably can’t decide today that you’re a marathon runner and run 42km tomorrow. But you can decide to become someone who runs. Then you run 1km. You fail. You learn. You train. You get better. Eventually the identity catches up with the decision. You don’t owe anyone consistency with an old version of yourself just because that’s the version they’re used to. If you’re done playing small, get out of the box. Learn. Expand. Reinvent yourself as many times as you need to. You are the alchemist of your own life, and it all starts in your mind. Identity reinvention never stops unless you decide it does.
