As happens in our culture, it was a marriage of two BIG FAMILIES - A union of the
Chief. Sir. Dr. John and Lolo Brigid Odocha families of Ife-Ezinihitte and
Chief. Dr. Oliver and Lolo Bridget Duruh families of Obodo Ujishi families, both of Mbaise. A wedding that made my Grandfather make a call, and rearrange the visit of the legend -Liet. Col. Dim Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu’s to Aba.
This young, good looking couple marched into CKC (Christ the King ) Cathedral in Aba, with the longest bridal train of Extended families you can imagine. All their wedding pictures had so many relatives, friends………
The processional hymn was Trust and Obey, played by the Nigerian Police Band , a wedding officiated by 5 bishops.
My very devoutly Catholic paternal Grandfather, who singlehandedly built the Catholic Church in my village, would always name the five Lordships, each time we watched the wedding clip of my Parents wedding our vhs video player. . A subliminal reminder of how our own weddings should be… Aba sports Club was their reception, the car my Maternal Grandfather gave my mum was driven into the Hall. Nna ehh ha mere ibara!
I was not in physical existence that beautiful Saturday when their wedding vows were exchanged, but each half of my genetic material would have sang along in ovaries and testes. I may have sang from heaven sef…while St. Peter and Angel Gabriel may have been hushing me from disturbing the nursery in heaven. They didn’t know I had seen my parents already 😇👼, as baby angel Ogechi.
but today I’ll disturb them ooooo because God has been good to my parents, to my family. Happy 43rd wedding anniversary my first loves 💘.
