4 Brutal sleep problems in peri/post menopause & tips to sleep better. #menopause #perimenopause #menopausesleep #perimenopausesleep #mymidlifeđ
Iâm gonna say something that might surprise you: HRT is not always the magic fix for your sleep issues. đ
Donât get me wrongâIâm 100% pro-HRT. But if you started hormone therapy expecting to finally sleep and youâre STILL tossing and turning? Hereâs why:
đYour metabolism needs backup.
Insulin resistance and blood sugar issues create inflammation that interferes with how your hormones function. HRT can help, but if youâre not addressing the metabolic piece too? Your sleep stays stuck.
đ«Youâre not clearing estrogen properly.
When estrogen builds up instead of getting cleared, it triggers histamine releaseâhello 2 AM wake-ups, racing heart, and anxiety. This is exactly why I run the DUTCH test. It shows whether your body is processing estrogen correctly or causing problems.
đȘ±Your gut is a wreck.
Your gut bacteria determine whether estrogen gets eliminated or recirculated back into your body. Dysbiosis = estrogen dominance symptoms even while ON HRT. Plus, an inflamed gut canât produce the serotonin you need for melatonin production.
HRT is a powerful tool, but it works best when your body is set up to USE it properly. Youâre not brokenâyour body just needs more support than hormones alone.

Struggling with those 3 a.m. wake-ups? Youâre not alone. This is one of the most common issues I see in my clientsâand Iâve been there too! Here are 3 tips to help you drift back to dreamland:
đ Breathe deeply: Slow, intentional breaths can calm your nervous system.
đ Journal it out: Write down any to-do list thoughts, anxieties, or loud thoughts to help your mind rest.
đ Shift your focus: Think of something soothing, like a peaceful beach or forest.

I thought it was just meâŠâŠ. @sleepgoddessmd breaks it down: Do you think something is going on with a higher rate of nightmares in perimenopause? This is directly related to the change in hormones fluctuations. This leads to more difficult transitions between sleep stages. More anxiety infiltrating you sleep effectively changing your sleep architecture and making you more at risk for vivid and disturbing dreams.

Generic sleep advice fails women in perimenopause and menopause because your sleep issues are not one-size-fits-all.
Hormone fluctuations matter but so do:
- sleep apnea
- chronic insomnia
- restless legs
- thyroid issues
- cortisol dysregulation
Guessing. Googling. Throwing supplements at the problem?
Thatâs not care, thatâs frustration.
đĄ Better sleep starts with answers, not assumptions.
When we identify the root cause, we can create a plan that actually works.

Losing an hour of sleep is one thingâ but in menopause, it can feel like losing all of them.
Daylight saving time can throw off your circadian rhythm, leading to grogginess, mood shifts, and restless nights. And if youâre in menopause? That sleep disruption can hit even harderâ thanks to the hormonal changes already making rest a challenge.
The good news: Sleep can get better. And weâre diving into how in our Sleep Seriesâ where Jessica and our amazing Respin Health coaches break down exactly whatâs happening to your sleep in menopause (and what actually helps). Weâre one session in and learning so much, the link is in our bio if you want to join us.

Stop blaming age for your 3 AM wake-up calls. When your blood sugar drops at night, your adrenals spike cortisol to wake you up, which keeps you in fat-storage mode. Here is how we fix the metabolic glitch.

Lie: âYou should avoid carbs at night.â
Truth: Carbs at night can actually improve sleep â especially in perimenopause when stress is higher and sleep is fragile.
If youâre waking up at 3am wide-eyedâŠ
It might not be the rice.
Action:
Try adding quality carbs to dinner and see how your sleep responds.
Stop fearing timing.
Start paying attention to results.

My sleep hack costs $2 đ€ đ
Itâs not a supplement
Itâs not a powder
Itâs not a pill đ
Itâs 2 kiwis đ„ 1 hour before bed đ Thatâs it. No 30-step nighttime routine đ
Feel Good January Habit 17 | micro sleep hack
Kiwis đ„ are one of the few foods naturally high in serotonin, which your body converts to melatonin (the sleep hormone). Theyâre also packed with antioxidants and folate, which helps regulate sleep neurotransmitters đŽ

Midlife insomnia affects more than 60% of women, often linked to vasomotor instability and reduced progesterone.
Ignoring sleep quality perpetuates mood instability, weight gain, and poor glycemic control.
Addressing both hormonal and behavioral contributors transforms outcomes.
A full nightâs rest is not a luxury â itâs therapeutic.

Half of all women in the US are now in menopause. And if youâve gotten your hands on Hormone Intelligence, you know Iâm all about celebrating this phase of life as a time of new freedom and power! But the symptoms that can come with the hormonal changes at this time - the top I hear from women being sleep problems - can keep you from feeling the love - and the power.
Sleep problems affect up to 50% of women in their perimenopausal years - from difficulty falling asleep and night waking to full blown insomnia. And letâs face it, when sleep is miserable - so is everything else - including making other common symptoms of menopause like stress, memory loss, and depression worse, plus jacking up the cortisol that causes more sugar cravings and also weight gain. Not fun. Been there, done that. Sleeping great. And you can, too.
No woman should have to accept years of disrupted sleep. And most meds donât add more than about 30 minutes of sleep and are dangerous for women.
In my new blog, I share some of my top strategies for getting sleep back on track in menopause, including some of my favorite herbs and supplements like:
đżAshwaghanda and other calming adaptogens
đżHops
đżValerian + Lemon balm
đżRelora
đżMelatonin
đżCalcium and magnesium
+ my special herbal bedtime blend
Youâll also learn which lifestyle tips can make a real difference (hint: that nightly glass of vino not so much!) Plus youâll find a full meno-sleep protocol in Hormone Intelligence.
Getting a good nightâs sleep can make a night and day difference (literally!) in how you experience menopause and the years leading up to it. Donât âsleepâ on it, get the details on getting started - so you can have a good night most nights.
