#Micrathena

Check out this derpy little creature! What you see here is the unmistakable Thorned Heart Orbweaver Spider❤️🩹🥀 (𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘢 𝘤𝘭𝘺𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘢)
Endemic to the Amazon basin, this little spider is probably one of the most bizarre creatures you'll ever see! Oddly cute!🥰

What is it? ⬇️
This spider is Micrathena sagittata, also known as the arrow-shaped micrathena, and is a species of spider belonging to the family Araneidae. It is found in the eastern United States and throughout Central America.
I was lucky to have found a few this year in New England.
This one I was trying a new view from underneath with the blue sky as a backdrop with the leaf behind the spider. Let me know your thoughts on this different perspective

Video by @javier_aznar_photography | Spiny orb weaver spiders are simply stunning animals. This female Micrathena schreibersi constructs an egg sac at night in Yasuni National Park, in Ecuador. The projections (called spines) act as a defense against predators. Learn more about the spiders in the March issue or at the link in bio. Follow @javier_aznar_photography for more small creatures.
Ever seen a spider like this? 🕸️
𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒂 🕷️😱
On one of those amazing nightwalks at @centromanu_cr my good friend @mx.benesch spotted what first looked like a piece of dirt hanging in a net. Taking a closer look paid off big-time, as this tiny 3-4 mm „horned oak spider“ surely was one of the coolest spiders we managed to see on our stay in Costa Rica. This species is known for it’s distinctive, horn-like spines on their abdomen, which make them easily recognizable. The water bubbles that formed due to the extreme humidity are just the icing on the cake.

I N F O: A female thorned heart orb weaver spider delicately constructing an egg case.
Hanging from a single silk thread, these arachnids spend hours carefully constructing a safe cocoon for their eggs. This is often on the underside of a leaf, away from the prying eyes of avian predators.
Once it's completed, the female dies, leaving her spiderlings to hatch and fend for themselves over winter.
