Microman (ミクロマン, Mikuroman) was a sci-fi toy-line originally made by the Japanese toy company Takara from 1974 to 1984. The toy-line was primarily highly articulate 3.75” action figures based on their popular 8” & 12” fully articulated doll line, the *Henshin Cyborg. The smaller Microman line was created to save cost on the producing the figures, but also to save cost and space for vehicles, robots, playsets and accessories. Many of the Microman toys used interchangeable parts that allowed them to be connected between different toys in the line. Microman figures were market as a real cyborg beings called “Micros” from planet Micro Earth and disguised themselves as action figures while on Earth. Later waves of Microman would see the toys move away from action figures with interchangeable parts and become transforming robots. These later figures, along with Diaclone (itself a spinoff from the Microman line) would be licensed to Hasbro and become the basis for The Transformers. From 1976 to 1980 the American toy company Mego licensed the Microman toy- line and created the Micronauts. As the Micronauts popularity grew, Mego would go on to modify parts and eventually create their own figures from scratch. *Tamara’s Henshin Cyborg was actually a spin off from their Combat Joe line, which was a licensed product from Hasbro’s GI Joe.
