MURCHISON SETTLEMENT in regional Western Australia was an ideal spot to rest up for a couple of days after walking 392 kilometres from Steep Point (the furthest west point on the Australian mainland). The hot chips were as good as I'd been told they were, and the burgers and sandwiches I demolished were just as amazing. Of course, I made sure I explored more than the cafe before I left, and can say it lives up to its 'Oasis' name. My only disappointment was just missing the Murchison Camp Oven Muster, which would have seen me happily sampling freshly cooked food from fire-heated cast iron pots. Next time..
