We recently had the opportunity to capture the launch of a new library at Masivuke Primary School in Philippi, Cape Town. This initiative forms part of the Beyond Words campaign, a partnership between @cottononfoundation , the @nomzamo_lighthouse and @thebookerycpt . The library also marks an incredible milestone — library #101 for The Bookery, continuing their mission of creating access to books and safe learning spaces for young learners across South Africa. Projects like this are a reminder of how powerful collaboration can be when organisations come together with a shared purpose: investing in the next generation through education. Grateful to have been trusted to document this moment and help tell a story that will impact learners and the broader community. #Storytelling #education #beyondwords #community
Excitement is mounting as we prep for the launch of our 101st school library, and our first under the Beyond Words banner, in partnership with Cotton On Foundation and the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation. Watch this space!

Bomikazi’s Book Club visited Riverside Primary School today, where we enjoyed a special storytime with the Grade R and Grade 1 learners. Our very own Bomikazi read ‘How Many Ways Can You Say Goodbye’ by @refiloemoahloli It was a truly wonderful experience, and we are excited to visit many more schools throughout the year! A big thank you to @tetleyteasa for generously providing tea to share with the amazing learners. #ctchildhood #museumofchildhood #childhood #storyreading #books
On Day 3 of our participation in the 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁, which also happens to be 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗨𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘅𝗼 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗰𝗼 visited 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗵𝘂 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 and read her book 𝗨𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘃𝗮 𝗢𝗹𝘂𝗸𝗵𝘂𝗹𝘂!, engaging learners with thoughtful questions about bullying, name-calling, and kindness. She encouraged learners to be accepting of differences, linking these themes to a story about Zinzo, who is raised by his grandfather after his fathers were excluded from their community. During the reading, she invited learners to take turns reading the next page aloud, creating an interactive and inclusive peer-reading experience. The session also included writing affirmations together, and the learners thoroughly enjoyed and engaged with the activity. #OpenBookYouthFest #Readingforenjoyment #Accesstobooks #Thejoyandpowerofreading #alibraryineveryschool #KindnessandTolerance
Impact starts with people 💚 This week, something powerful happened at Phikiswayo Primary School in the heart of KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal. Together with Project Literacy, we launched our One Agent, One Child initiative. A programme built on a simple idea - when we invest in literacy, we invest in the future. Right now, 81% of South African Grade 4 learners cannot read for meaning. Behind that statistic is something far more important: children with potential waiting for the opportunity to succeed. Principal Mr Mchunu spoke about how initiatives like this restore hope for learners and educators alike. Lungile Thandeka Moleko, CEO of Project Literacy, reminded us that “Reading is the bridge between potential and achievement.” Our Chief People Officer Aeysha Coetzee-Ismail reinforced that literacy is a basic human right - a foundation for dignity, confidence and opportunity. We were also honoured to welcome Mr SSS Lushozi from the Department of Education, who shared Nelson Mandela’s words: "A nation investing in its future must invest in its children." When our CEO Ruben Moggee sat eye-to-eye with the learners and spoke about building futures together, it was a reminder that real change begins with human connection. This is what generational impact looks like. Communities. Educators. Business. Government. Standing together for our children. #Nutun #GenerationalImpact #LiteracyMatters #ImpactRequiresAction #PhikiswayoPrimarySchool
Too many children in South Africa reach Grade 4 without being able to read for meaning. The 2030 @readingpanel was established to answer a simple but urgent question: what needs to change for all children to read by Grade 4? The latest 2026 Background Report shows that only a small fraction of learners are reading at the level expected for their grade, leaving many unable to access the curriculum independently. Starting children early can make a real difference. Programmes like 'Dialogic book-sharing', run by the Mikhulu Trust, give young learners the chance to explore books, play with language, and build attention, concentration, and early literacy skills — all in a safe and nurturing environment with the people they trust most: parents, caregivers, and peers. Book-sharing is more than reading aloud. It is an active, joyful conversation around a book that strengthens language, thinking and social skills. By putting books in children’s hands and fostering engagement at home and in early learning settings, we can help ensure children are ready to read for meaning when they enter Grade 4. EXCITING NEWS…… ABCA books have arrived in Namibia!!!!!!! ABCA books were donated to the Bernhard Nordkamp Centre (BNC) which runs an after-school educational programme in Katutura, a large poverty-stricken township in Windhoek, Namibia. Namibia has 17 official languages. Although English is the national language, it is not the children’s mother tongue and many of them struggle to read and write in English. Books are expensive, and early readers are not easily available. The children also do not have access to books at their morning schools. The BNC runs after-school classes to help learners with English and maths, and also provides food and sports activities in a safe environment. MaryBeth the Director of BNC says: We are delighted with the books!!!!! 🥰😍😘 I just stopped my lesson mid-sentence and we opened up the first box and just read the books for the next hour!!! This is a very happy day!!!! “One small staple by a woman, is one giant leap towards a better future for children in Botswana.” Women, tirelessly and diligently helping create the very architecture of a kinder world. These women are hand-finishing Think Equal books, ensuring that every child in Botswana receives the tools they need to master: Empathy to understand others. Resilience to bounce back. Kindness as a superpower. For a child, these very pages are a roadmap to emotional intelligence and a more inclusive future. #printing #childrensbook #botswana #socialemotionallearning #empathy
