It’s definitely a shock to the system but there is community here & you can find it if you’re intentional. Anyone got any advice for the next generation of Black vets?? 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 #blackveterinarian #vetmed #prevet #vetstudent #nabv

Thank you to the NABV for hosting such an important event; it was an honor to be a part of the 3rd annual conference. Our very own Dr. Gibson was invited to speak on Saturday’s panel and we were all given such important insight to the progress that has been made and what has yet to be done. We will see y’all next year! #nabv

THE 2 PERCENT. The movement was strong and the sentiment was vibrant at the 3rd Annual National Association of Black Veterinarians (NABV) Conference. Because Black veterinarians comprise less than 2% of the profession, conferences like these enable Black veterinary healthcare professionals to connect, learn, and advocate for the community at large. A wealth of inspiring speakers, enthusiastic students, dedicated nonprofits and committed corporate sponsors, this NABV conference had some of the brightest minds the veterinary community has to offer. Many thanks to the NABV, old friends, new friends and everyone that made this experience incredible. The advocacy, support and sense of community was powerful. See you next year! @the_nabv @diversifyvetmed

As we celebrate our freedoms today, let's not forget about those we still fight for! I want to congratulate my Mother on the success of her 3rd Annual Conference for @The_NABV. The National Association for Black Veterinarians is a leader in creating a pipeline for Black Veterinarian Medicine students across the country! In 2023, less than 3% off ALL Veterinarians are Black. Keep fighting for the freedoms that we enjoy today and our children will enjoy tomorrow! Happy Juneteenth! #NABV #GeauxRideBR #3rdAndMain #BlackOwnedBusiness

MORE BELOW: I got a request for student loan transparency as a new grad in general practice veterinary medicine 🐶 Personally, I took out all federal loans so situations may be different with private loans. Also some people would prefer to pay off loans as fast as possible (10 years or less) which is what most loan repayment services always suggest but there are 20-25 year repayment options with much lower rates 🐱 I also have a few side incomes. I pick up a 5th day at my normal job from time to time but recently have started reliefing at other clinics too. My acupuncture business is very small but that does generate additional income. I also sell notes on Etsy and occasionally get social media deals. If you’re interested more in the relief world definitely follow and check out @annaschozer. Many clinics also do commission-based pay so varying by the company, many people get bonuses monthly-quarterly as well on top of base salaries. 🐶 In state grads often have much lower loans but this is pretty average for out of state school students (also why I tell people even though SGU is an island school the tuition and cost of living is still on par with state side OOS costs too) 🐱 Let me know if you have other financial questions or post grad opportunities! ✨ #veterinarian #vetmed #vetschool #vetschoolgrad #vetstudent #vetstudentlife #prevet #prevetstudent #lgbt #diversityinmedicine #blackdoctors #melanininmedicine #vet #nabv

I had a great time at the @avma convention. All of my goals were met: ✅ Complete all CE for this year. ✅ Network ✅ Meet vendors and learn about the latest tech and pharmaceuticals ✅Learn about methods, procedures, policies to maximize the outreach and efficiency of my new clinic. ✅ Relax and enjoy myself. I especially enjoyed catching up with my fellow Cornellians, some I haven't seen since graduation! And, of course, reconnecting with colleagues from @the_nabv. Until next time... #lifeasavet #draziza #avma
