What a powerful few days. From students walking in with energy and excitement, to meaningful conversations inside the convention center, to raising our voices at the Capitol—Lobby Days was a true reflection of advocacy in action. During Social Work Month, I had the honor of spending time with one of the most influential social workers in public service — Mayor Barbara Lee @barbaraleeforca . A lifelong social worker, trailblazer, and global advocate for justice, she has opened doors for generations of social workers who believe our profession belongs not only in agencies and communities, but also in positions of power and policy. ㅤ Seeing one of my favorite social workers in person and thanking her for the path she has paved meant more to me than words can express. Leaders like her remind us that social workers have always belonged in the rooms where decisions are made. ㅤ I’m deeply grateful for her encouragement and support as I continue my campaign to serve and lead social workers across California. Her legacy shows us what is possible when social workers step into leadership and use our voices to uplift, defend, and transform our communities. ㅤ Thank you, Mayor Lee, for decades of advocacy, courage, and leadership. So we’re not professionals, even with a degree and license?! The Dept. of Education is proposing that social work is not a professional field. This could be a game changer, and if you thought we were already losing... Classifying social work as NOT a professional field will hit hard and close for a lot of people - NOT just the social workers. Social work as a NON professional field will impact • Access to student loans to become a social worker • The current shortage of social workers • Program funding • The public’s perception of social work • Caseloads and client care Sharing this is a macro activity. But what else can and will you do? When the public comment period opens, Write a letter, call, email…Apply pressure! Because if social work gets erased at the federal level… The impact will hit every hospital, school, clinic, and community program in this country. Holy 🐄! We’ve had the most amazing semester at Wise Girl Workshops! This semester these girls have grown in learning essential life skills like developing a positive body image, problem solving, and understanding technology’s impact (to name a few). Not only that, they’ve developed close relationships despite coming from 6 different schools. I’ll say that is one of the cool parts of the program…meeting girls you wouldn’t have gotten to know otherwise and seeing and feeling that you can be truly liked and loved. Everything that happens at Wise Girls is an opportunity to grow, connect, challenge oneself, and get support. While I’ll miss this awesome gang, most are coming back next semester. While we don’t have room in our 5th and 6th grade groups in Petaluma, we’ve got just a few spots in our 3rd/4th and 7th/8th. Be sure to grab a spot today! And be sure to check out our North Santa Rosa location just a few minutes drive for Windsor and Healdsburg. Here’s to growing Wise Girls!

You know those events that you almost didn’t go but you’re so glad you did! This was one of those. With Oct being so busy I wasn’t sure I could squeeze this event in but I’m sure glad I did! It turned out to be one of the highlights of my month. I’m so grateful I was finally able to meet so many of my colleagues in person and make new connections. Some current themes that kept coming up was using technology in SW, the SW compact, the clinical exam- do we keep it or change the process?, and salaries. #socialworkersrise #socialwork #naswca @naswca @streetz_06 @the.macro.social.worker @delynfraley @peachychrista @rubyguillen85
