HAZRAT IMAM ALI PROCESSION Today I had the honor of documenting the Hazrat Imam Ali procession in New York. The procession began at King Arefus King Park and concluded at the Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center. It was a large and deeply emotional gathering, with people coming together in remembrance, reflection, and unity. Being there with my camera and witnessing such a powerful moment of faith and community was truly meaningful. Ali ibn Abi Talib, known as Imam Ali, was the cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad. He is revered for his justice, wisdom, and leadership. Imam Ali was mortally wounded in 661 CE while praying at the Great Mosque of Kufa and died shortly after. His death remains a profound moment of mourning and remembrance for many Muslims around the world. #ImamAli #ShiaMuslim #ReligiousProcession #NYCCommunity #DocumentaryPhotograph

In February, Village Preservation, Councilmember Chris Marte, and local community, housing, and preservation advocates gathered to oppose the proposed demolition of 139 Thompson Street, a landmarked 1875 tenement in the Sullivan Thompson Historic District. The historic building contains 19 apartments, including 12 rent-regulated units. The owner has proposed demolishing it and replacing it with just six much larger and far more expensive apartments. The demolition request to the Landmarks Preservation Commission was based on claims that the building is beyond repair, despite the owner having held the property for nearly two decades while allowing it to deteriorate and accumulate building code violations. This case highlights how historic preservation can help protect affordable housing, and how demolition and luxury redevelopment can erase both community history and rent-regulated homes.
