In other words, the natural spring that fed it shifted inside the cliff, so the water no longer emerges at the same visible point where the waterfall used to fall. Interesting facts: 1.The village is literally built into the cliff Many of the houses are carved directly into the limestone walls of the Gorges du Tarn. It feels half‑natural, half‑human — like the village grew out of the rock. 2. You can only reach it by a single bridge The village sits on a tiny plateau, and the only access is a narrow stone bridge from the 19th century. It adds to the sense of isolation and “hidden gem” energy. 3. It was once completely abandoned In the 20th century, the village was nearly empty. Later, it was restored and protected as part of the Gorges du Tarn heritage — which is why it looks frozen in time today. 4. The church has a rare Romanesque bell tower The little church of Saint‑Chély has a distinctive square bell tower, unusual for such a tiny hamlet. It’s one of the oldest structures in the gorge. 5. A natural spring on the ranch feeds this clear mountain spring water trough for the retired horses all year long! It comes down the draw behind the new house and we tap into it with a hose and then a pipe to run into this trough. Some years of it’s really dry it will start to drip at end of summer but most of the time it gushes fresh water like this. I’m planning on setting something up so this can feed my new garden area at the new house and maybe even have a trough with running water for washing veggies! #fivemarys #fivemarysbuildahouse #naturalspring #waterislife #water #mountainspringwater

And it surpassed expectations 😍 Yes, the water is THAT blue and it is freezing, but we had great wetsuits and were working hard paddling, so I didn’t notice. Never been on a rafting trip where not only did we squeeze our raft through super narrow passes between rocks, but we also got to trampoline off it into the water and drink from a natural spring. Bonus: the guides were a total blast!! We will 100% be back and now we’re even planning our wedding in this amazing country 😍 ” — our friends @duo2roam after a wild ride down Soča River in Slovenia.
