A moment’s peace with an Indonesian mountain ⛰️ Located some four hours’ drive from Surabaya, the capital of East Java, Mount Bromo is a part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park which covers a massive area of 800 square km. While not among the tallest of Indonesia’s mountains, standing at 2,392 meters, Bromo’s stunning beauty lies in its incredible setting. The eerie landscape has spurned countless legends and myths. Bromo has particular significance for the Tengger people who believe this was the site where a brave prince sacrificed his life for his family. 🪨Crews have done a knockout job repairing and improving several overlooks and trails. 📍Now officially marked and with a striped parking area, Chestnut Lawn Overlook is on Lower Falls Road. 👀Here’s what you need to know: 🚘 There will be no vehicle use fees until spring. 🚙 Enter the park year round at the Castile gate at 6787 Denton Corners Road, Castile, NY and Mount Morris gate at 2501 Park Rd, Mount Morris, NY. The Castile gate gives access to the large river waterfalls. Mount Morris Gate gives access to the Mount Morris Dam, Highbanks Rec Area and Hogsback Overlook. ❄️ Park Road between the Perry gate and Castile gate remain open until winter weather conditions. Then, that section of Park Road closes to vehicles and opens for snowmobiling, skiing and hiking. Park Road reopens in the spring. ⏰ For late fall, Visitor Center hours are: M-Th 8:30am-4:15pm, F 8:30am-6:45pm, Sat & Su 10am-5:45pm. ✅ Follow on Facebook and Instagram (@letchworthstatepark) and the NYS Parks Explorer App for alerts and updates.
