I used to think the hardest part of losing the future I had planned was watching everyone else live it without me.
But looking back, the hardest part was realizing how much of the present I sacrificed trying to get it back.
There were people I loved standing beside me. Memories being made around me. A life that was still moving forward.
And I was there for all of it, but I wasn’t really there. I was too busy comparing where I was to where I thought I should have been.
For so long, I told myself I’d finally be happy when I got my life back on track. When I fixed my mistake. When I reached the next goal. When I became the person I thought I was supposed to be by now.
Meanwhile, my life was happening.
My last year with some of my closest friends was passing by. Moments I thought were ordinary were becoming memories. And instead of being present for them, my mind was constantly somewhere in the future, worrying about what would happen next.
I still want the future I’ve been working toward. I’m still ambitious. I still have so much I want to accomplish.
But I never want to want tomorrow so badly that I forget to live today.
My life right now looks nothing like the one I imagined for myself two years ago.
And for the first time, I think I’m okay with that.
I don’t know where this path is going to take me.
I just know I don’t want to reach the end of it and realize I spent the entire journey wishing I was somewhere else.
God is good.

I started my Navy career in Deck Department, young, learning as I went, making mistakes, and even making E-2 twice.
From there, the journey took me into the SH community, Logistics and Supply, working as a barber, VBSS, assignments in Washington, D.C., and six years serving in Japan aboard USS GERMANTOWN and USS AMERICA.
Along the way, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business, was selected Sailor of the Year twice, had the privilege of leading Sailors, and eventually spent three months at OCS earning the opportunity to become a Naval Officer.
I’ve seen the Navy from the perspective of a junior Sailor and now as a leader, and I will never forget where I came from.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that leadership is about taking care of people. What makes our Navy special will always be our Sailors.
Thank you to every mentor, Chief, Officer, peer, and Sailor who helped shape me along the way. I carry those lessons with me into this next chapter.
From Deck Department to Officer. Still just getting started. ⚓️🇺🇸

Found a way to put those extra family Christmas cards to use 🥹🇺🇸 This has become a little tradition of mine, anytime I put my uniform together, I love finding small ways to add pieces of my family into it. This Christmas card sits behind my ribbons, keeps them perfectly flush, & gives me a little reminder that my family is always closest to my heart.
Recently, I’ve received SO many messages about balancing relationships & military service, something I never really expected to be asked about so often. Especially from people who are fearful that choosing to serve means having to give up closeness with the people they love. For me, it’s been about finding a way to #DoBoth. I have an incredibly supportive partner who is truly my anchor. We look at this journey as something we’re in together: one unit, constantly communicating & making the big decisions together. He is such a huge part of my why, & I genuinely don’t think I could have made it this far without him. He’s the biggest reason I can keep going.
I’ve always believed in keeping your “why” somewhere you can see it: whether it’s a motivational quote, a picture of someone you love, or a reminder of a goal you’re working toward. There’s something powerful about having it pop up in places you wouldn’t normally expect it. & my family is my “why,” the family I have beside me today & the future family we’re dreaming of building together💗 Sometimes the smallest reminders carry the biggest meaning🇺🇸🥹🙏🏻 #doboth
Fun Military Facts About Navy Officers ⚓️
1. We do not execute “contract extensions.” Once you’re in, you’re in FOO-EVAAAAA. 😂
2. To get out as an officer, you have to submit a resignation… and that resignation has to be accepted. Meaning Big Navy can look at your paperwork and say, “Nah, we still need you.” 😭
3. Your sailors are a reflection of you. If they’re failing, you’re failing. No pressure or anything.
4. Your actual job is only one of your jobs. You probably have 2–3 collateral duties, are studying for qualifications, chasing a warfare pin, and somehow expected to have a life outside of work.
5. Sleep? I’m not familiar with that rate/rank. What division do they work in? 🤔
