“Lowkey gonna keep renting” can turn into a highkey expensive decision. 🏡💸
I get it…buying in South Etobicoke can feel like a lot.
But here’s the part worth looking at:
Renting = 100% of your payment helps build someone else’s equity.
Owning = you start building your own equity, stability, and long-term options.
And no, that doesn’t mean everyone should buy tomorrow.
It means it’s worth understanding your numbers before you assume homeownership is completely out of reach.
Whether you’re looking in Mimico, Long Branch, New Toronto, Alderwood, or anywhere in Etobicoke, the first step is simple: get clear on what buying could actually look like for you.
No pressure. No pushy sales pitch. Just real numbers, real options, and a plan that makes sense.

I finally understand why everyone loves @jerseymikescanada . 🥖🔥
Every time I walked by their @torontounion location, there was always a lineup. So when I found out they had a location in Markham, we had to give it a try!
😋Every sub is made to order, with the meats and cheeses sliced right in front of you instead of sitting pre-sliced behind the counter. It sounds like a small detail, but it really makes a difference.
The giant size sub is also no joke 😂 At 15 inches long, it’s perfect for sharing (or for tomorrow’s lunch).
We tried:
🥖 Classic Italian - Layers of provolone, five different Italian meats, and pepperoni, made even better “Mike’s Way” with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and spices.
🥩 Philly Grilled Sub - Tender grilled steak with sautéed onions, peppers, and melted white American cheese. Rich, cheesy, and so satisfying.
👧 Kids’ Meal ($7) - comes with a mini sub, cookie and drink!
If you’ve only walked past Jersey Mike’s and never stopped in, this might be your sign.
📣Good news if there isn’t one near you yet—they’re expanding across Canada, with plans for 300 locations by 2034. There’s also a new Toronto location opening soon at Yonge & Eglinton.
Have you tried @jerseymikescanada ? What’s yours fav sub?

Toronto eats, Toronto food, coldcut , sandwich, torontofood, viral food, Toronto weekend, long weekend vibe, new restaurant, healthy food
For a lot of Canadians, this is going to feel like a blast from the past.
Zellers is officially expanding back into Ontario, with a new Toronto location set to open on June 18 at Orfus Road near Yorkdale Mall, followed by another store in Windsor this July.
And this is not just a nostalgia play.
The company says it wants to expand across Canada and is already discussing future locations in places like Brampton, Scarborough, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. Zellers COO Joey Benitah said, "Ultimately, we're looking to be in every major market from coast to coast."
What's interesting is that the new Zellers is making some changes.
The stores will carry apparel, home goods, luggage and seasonal products, but they're also adding food and expanding their toy section after discovering toys were among the best-selling items at their Edmonton location. Benitah admitted he originally didn't want to focus on toys because of competition from Walmart and Amazon, but customer demand changed his mind.
For anyone who grew up in Canada, Zellers was more than just a store. It was part of the Canadian retail landscape before most locations disappeared after Hudson's Bay sold many leases to Target. Ironically, Target's Canadian expansion collapsed just a few years later, while Zellers is now attempting another comeback under new ownership.
The big question now is whether Canadians are looking for another discount retailer or whether this is mostly driven by nostalgia.
Given the rising cost of living, expensive groceries and affordability concerns, a lot of shoppers may be willing to give Zellers another chance if the prices are right.
Would you shop at Zellers again?
Or is this a case of Canadians missing the memories more than the store itself?
