@thechariotjams - “Evan Perks” live at Plan B in Moscow, Russia 5/4/2012
The Chariot were a metalcore band from Douglasville, Georgia. They have released 5 studio albums: Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, and Nothing Is Bleeding (2004), The Fiancée (2007), Wars and Rumors of Wars (2009), all via Solid State; Long Live (2010) and One Wing (2012), both via Good Fight Music. The band were known for their use of heavy breakdowns, raw and feedback-laced recordings, energetic live performances, and the vocal stylings and lyrics of Josh Scogin, taking inspiration from bands such as Botch, Coalesce, and Every Time I Die. They have inspired numerous contemporary metalcore and mathcore practitioners, including bands such as The Callous Daoboys, Sunflo’er, and Steaksauce Mustache. The band’s name is inspired by the biblical story of Elijah and the chariot of fire, and although they have been characterized as a Christian band, their lyrical themes were also often concerned with materialism, the callousness of the music industry, grief, and death. Formed in 2003 immediately following Scogin’s departure from Norma Jean (something which surprised his band mates and the hardcore community), The Chariot experienced numerous lineup changes in their 10 year run, with Scogin being the only remaining original member when the band disbanded in 2013. In recent years, Josh has formed the rock duo ‘68, with guitarist Stephen “Stevis” Harrison performing live with Cancer Bats and formerly with Fever 333. Final drummer David Kennedy and former guitarist Bryan Russell Taylor would later form The Threats, with former guitarist Brandon Henderson forming Holy + Gold. There is pretty much no other inactive band apart from Dillinger I would like to see reform more.

Vanna playing “A Dead Language For A Dying Lady” feels like a true Boston homecoming, taking a track from their 2006 EP The Search Party Never Came and putting it in front of a crowd far bigger than anything the song originally knew. While Vanna called it quits in 2017, the Curses lineup eventually came back as Inspirit to keep that era alive.
When Vanna entered the studio for their 2007 debut full-length Curses, they worked with producer Matt Bayles, known for shaping records by Mastodon and Norma Jean. That collaboration gave the band a new but raw, atmospheric sound that separated them from the MySpace-era metalcore wave. Vanna always were a pillar of the community-driven energy that defined Northeast hardcore in the mid-2000s. #legendsofmetalcore #thebestofmetalcore #vannaband
@normajeanband - A Grand Scene For A Color Film
Norma Jean just dropped a brand new live session with the legends over at @audiotree and it’s absolutely breathtaking.
The 4 song studio performance blends seamlessly with interview clips, creating a cinematic experience that captures the raw intensity and heart of the band. After 25+ years, they somehow sound better than ever.
Norma Jean has never stopped pushing the envelope, and this session is proof that they’re still one of the greatest to ever do it.

Growing up, @normajeanband was one of the first heavy bands that my brother and I fell in love with. The raw power of the music made such an impression on my psyche, and to this day I regard them as one of the best to ever do it. That raw power has not gone away, as seen in this episode of Audiotree From Nothing. Now on YouTube and all streaming services.
All hail the almighty Norma Jean! Thank you for your time and your music all these years.
