If your child struggles to sit for homework, the problem may not be motivation
Sometimes the nervous system just needs proprioceptive input first.
A few minutes of heavy work can help the body feel organized and ready for learning.
Try it and tell me if it works for your child.

The magic is in the just right challenge.
Not too easy. Not too much.
Reading the environment, their regulation, and adapting in the moment - because progress begins with meeting them where they are.
Just a reminder that you can join online for our OT educational communities - with groups for new or experienced OTs. Link in bio!

Every morning before work, I say a short prayer for the kids I’ll see that day.
Being a school-based OT isn’t just about therapy sessions — it’s about patience, compassion, and showing up for each child exactly where they are. 🤍
Praying my hands can be used for good today.

Why sensory input matters in OT 💛
Sensory input helps the brain and body work together so kids can feel calm, focused, and ready to learn.
✨ It helps with regulation (calm or alert)
✨ Improves attention and participation
✨ Builds body awareness
✨ Supports motor skills (like writing & feeding)
✨ Helps kids manage big emotions
Regulated bodies, ready minds 💪🏽
✨ One Tool. MANY Uses. ✨
Those little plastic animals? 🐘🐄🐑
They're not just toys — they're powerful OT tools 💪
Just ONE simple item to target:
🖐️ Hand strengthening
⚖️ Core stability + crossing midline
🧠 Visual perceptual skills
🤲 Bilateral coordination
✏️ Precision & pincer grasp
In pediatric OT, it’s not about fancy equipment — it’s about intentional layering of skills.
One tool.
Multiple positions.
Endless skill-building.
That’s the magic of purposeful play 💛

🎨 What OT Actually Is
ㅤ
It’s more than therapy — it’s helping kids play, focus, build confidence, and grow towards independence. 🌟

✨ This is what we do at Beyond OT.

Some call it cleaning, I call it regulation. Two birds one stone 😏 thanks @joycat_official.us for keeping both my daughter AND me entertained and regulated ✨#occupationaltherapyforkids #ot #pediatricot #otmom #occupationaltherapy
This is what progress in OT looks like 💙✨
When we first started… sitting for even 1 minute felt impossible.
Attention was limited, engagement was hard, and structured activities were a challenge.
Today… she is sitting, attending, and participating 🧩
She’s using her AAC device to communicate 💬
She’s completing puzzles and engaging in fine motor activities while seated 🙌
These are the moments people don’t always see
the consistency, the patience, the small steps that turn into BIG wins 🥹
OT is not “just play.”
It’s building attention, communication, independence, and confidence—one session at a time.
This is my kind of rich 💙

Eye and Hand Skills in OT
by Justine Bedocs, Occupational Therapist
Have you ever wondered why some children struggle with handwriting, catching a ball, copying from the board, or completing puzzles?
Many of these skills rely on eye and hand coordination, the ability for the eyes and hands to work together smoothly and accurately.
In Eye and Hand Skills in OT, I explain how visual motor and visual perceptual skills support learning, school tasks, sports, and everyday independence. I also share simple activities that help strengthen these skills so children can feel more confident and successful.
Occupational therapy helps children build the connection between what their eyes see and how their hands respond.

Just because a child needs OT doesn’t always mean they qualify for school-based OT. There is often an education link. I often see everyday functional difficulties within the private practice.
Part 3 is coming next: what a typical day actually looks like in each setting. 👀
