Do you know the story of The Willie Door? The front doors were the only way into Gruene Hall until 1991, when Willie Nelson played there. They cut a hole in the wall for him to crawl through so the legend wouldn’t get stuck in the crowd trying to get to the stage. Going through The Willie Door is seen as a right of passage for performers. I had the great privilege of playing Gruene Hall and using The Willie Door myself a few weeks ago when I opened a show for The Bacon Brothers. Texas Hill Country is known for its peaches — but this year, one bad freeze changed everything. Warm temps in February tricked peach trees into waking up early, and then a March freeze hit Jenschke Orchards in Fredericksburg with temperatures below 23 degrees, wiping out nearly 90% of the crop. If you were looking forward to a "you-pick" peach experience this summer, you're out of luck — the orchard had to eliminate it entirely. Owner Lindsay Jenschke says the hardest part isn't the financial hit, it's letting down the customers who travel just for a taste of a Fredericksburg peach.
