🦽 Roll, Xavier, Roll! 🦽
Since we started NeuroTX, our dream is to build a wheelchair controllable by brain signals. The name Xavier of the project, probably not so difficult to guess, was from an X-men character who was in a wheelchair and could read people’s minds. 👁👄👁
Since then, it has been a challenging, but also a great and fun learning experience. With @openbci boards used to amplify EEG signals, we could start recording our own brain signal data. 🧠⚡️
By that, we had to painstakingly place each electrode in the precise position on our head using silicone, and after that, maybe even more painstakingly, remove them. 😅
We then analyzed the data using Python and built machine learning models to classify the three conditions: forward, right, and left.
We also had a great opportunity to test our model on one of @autak.wheelchair’s wheelchairs, which was a very nice proof of our concept. 🎉 Still, there were some challenges when it comes to, for instance, the mental energy needed for the experiments and consistency in analyzing the data.
We’ve learned a lot from these experiences, so, right now, our software folks are working on a new model. Together with our new EEG headset, we hope to make the task of controlling the wheelchair and beyond easier. ✨ We’ve also got our own electrical wheelchair, which our hardware team is enthusiastically working on. If they don’t fry too many boards, we might see the wheelchair rolling soon! 🔥
With these challenging tasks laying ahead, we are more than excited to welcome you all to our NeuroTX family. We are especially looking for someone who can support us in the area of data analysis and machine learning online pipeline (MLop), as well as someone with a basic understanding of electrical circuits, familiarity with motor electronics/drivers or rapid prototyping. Besides the Xavier project, we are also looking for new teammates who could help us with 3D printing, finance, and public relations.
