☦️💒 A PROCESSION INTO ETERNITY: The Orthodox Wedding 💒☦️ In the ancient rhythm of the Orthodox wedding, the most sacred moment comes when the priest leads the bride and groom in a procession around the analogion—the table bearing the Gospel and the crowns. This is not a simple walk. It is a MARCH INTO MARTYRDOM. The crowns placed upon their heads are not symbols of earthly royalty. They are crowns of witness, the same word from which we get “martyr.” The couple is being crowned for a life of sacrificial love, for the daily dying to self that marriage demands. The procession, always moving forward, symbolizes their journey through life together—with the Church leading, with the Gospel at the center, with Christ as their destination. Three times they circle. Three times, in honor of the Holy Trinity. Three times, they declare that their marriage is not a contract but a covenant, not a convenience but a vocation, not a temporary arrangement but an eternal bond. Behind them, the bridal party follows. Candles flicker. Hymns rise. The faithful watch and pray.
