Every day is humanure day. 💩💩💩 Heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, “Forever Chemicals” PFAS, PFOAS and Gen X Chemicals are also found in both class A and Class B biosolids. “Prions that cause “mad cow”, scrapie, chronic wasting disease (CWD), and in humans (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.) can survive anaerobic treatment of sludge and be concentrated in biosolids, which are then applied to land, creating a pathway for them to enter the environment and potentially enter the food chain. Are these risks we should be taking? Class B biosolids can contain pathogens including, but not limited to, E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Norwalk virus, and enteroviruses. These can cause gastrointestinal illness or lead to a carrier state where a person does not show symptoms, but can spread the infection to others. These illnesses can develop into more serious diseases in immune-compromised individuals, infants, young children, and especially the elderly. The disease risk in Class B biosolids is relative to exposure levels and infective dose…so it is recommended…to minimize workers’ contact with Class B biosolids and soil or dusts containing Class B biosolids during production and application, and at land application sites during the period when public access is restricted. Because Class B biosolids treatment reduces but does not eliminate pathogens. Federal regulations restrict public access and limit livestock grazing for specified time periods to allow time for the pathogens to die off. To protect public health, the EPA recommends limiting public access to land where class B biosolids have been applied for up to 1 year. We live in Oklahoma. Dust does not respect property lines when the wind blows. Antibiotic resistant bacteria are common at wastewater treatment plants. #pfas #biosolids #oklahoma
