CATCHING AND THROWING ARE THE MOST BASIC FUNDAMENTALS AND BUILDING BLOCKS OF OUR SPORT☝🏽Often times younger players hear that phrase “if you hit you don’t sit” (which is true) and interpret that as… I need to spend the majority of my practice time and development on swinging a bat🤔 However, I would argue that the phrase “Defense wins championships” is what college coaches value more than any one individual swinging a hot bat🤷🏻‍♂️ Think about it like this, any player in a line up that goes 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts will most likely not be held responsible for singlehandedly “losing the game”, however when a player makes 4 defensive mistakes or throwing errors… it’s considerably easier to start pointing fingers as to why the team lost🫠 Moral of the story is every hitter on the planet is eventually going to slump, but when that happens how else can you impact the game🤔 Can you take runs away on defense? Are you versatile enough to play different positions if necessary etc…?
