We tell ourselves we can’t afford our dreams. We imagine a number. A big, scary, impossible number. And we file it under « one day. » But here’s what I’ve learned: we rarely do the math. We just assume. 2,600 EUR. That’s about 7 EUR a day over a year. A coffee and a croissant. We spend so much on things. Sneakers that sit in boxes. Gadgets we forget about. Stuff that loses meaning the moment we buy it. But experiences? They stay. They change you. They become part of who you are. I don’t remember what I bought in 2020. Day 4 : one daily video from the first Dakar editions, until Dakar 2026 ends. 1982: The Year the Dakar Became a Legend 🏁 The 4th edition of the Paris-Dakar wasn’t just a race; it was a global headline-maker that defined the « Golden Era » of rally raid. * Cars: The legendary Marreau brothers took the crown in their iconic Renault 20 Turbo 4x4. Pure French engineering conquering the dunes! 🇫🇷🚗 * Motos: The « King of the Desert, » Cyril Neveu, secured his 3rd win, this time riding for Honda on the rugged XR550. 🏍️ * Trucks: Georges Groine and his crew dominated the sands in their Mercedes Unimog. * 🚜 Participants: 392 started, but only 128 reached the Pink Lake. 😱 The Drama: Lost in the Sahara 1982 will be remembered for the disappearance of Mark Thatcher, son of UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. After his Peugeot 504 broke down, he went missing for 6 days in the Sahara. Crazy situation at the Dakar Rally 2024! On my second day at the Dakar here in Saudi Arabia, I got to witness an insane situation: an assistance truck fell into dunes and got badly stuck…and trapped. This truck was supposed to rescue a Dakar vehicle stuck in dunes a few kilometres away. But the desert of the Empty Quarter is unforgivable. Hopefully, and after 1 hour, the truck finally got rescued by 2 other assistance trucks…in pitch dark. The Dakar is not only about the pilots but the whole dedicated team behind. Better to never forget about that! You will be able to see the whole situation in a Youtube video coming very soon! Ps: I keep saying ‘Paris-Dakar’ even though it’s officially the ‘Dakar’ now.
