BUT… If there’s something you genuinely love (even if it feels “small”), turning it into a project is the easiest way to: ✨ Stand out ✨ Enjoy the premed grind ✨ Have something fun to talk about in interviews Mine started sophomore year after one mental health advocacy class I couldn’t stop thinking about 💔 → Founded a nonprofit teaching kids emotional literacy through children’s books → Big dream: clinics + libraries in mental-health deserts 🌍 That’s my thing. Yours doesn’t have to look like it (please don’t copy—copying kills passion 🔥) Two simple questions to find yours: 1️⃣ Outside medicine + others’ opinions… what do I actually love? (woodworking 🪚 running 🏃‍♀️ cooking 🍳 art 🎨 writing ✍️ – nothing too small) 2️⃣ How can I use it to serve or connect people? → Cook? → Meals for shelters → Run? → Free community run club → Write? → Publish stories & read to kids Boom—that’s a passion project 🎤 No nonprofit needed. But how do you tell the difference between those and something REAL? Instagram. If you take pictures and videos from every event, you host, every person you help, and every impact you make while you are doing your project and log it on Instagram, it becomes a time stamped record of all the work you did. Then when you are ready to apply to college, you can simply drop the Instagram handle in the additional information section of your application and the admissions officers will often look it up and see the pictures and videos of all the wonderful things you did. That’s how you prove that your passion project was real and it’s how you stand out to Ivy League colleges.
