Nothing funnier than watching my fiance get humbled in a Pilates class
Yes, Pilates can absolutely be used for recovery. But if every Pilates class feels like a rest day, you probably aren’t being challenged enough, the real challenge often comes from moving with intention, control and a genuine mind-body connection🤝 Wearing @oneractive Moss Brown + Dark Umber Brown 🤎 Pilates | Reformer Pilates | Strength training | Functional strength | Core strength | Full body workout | Stability | Pilates instructor
I would walk out if these Pilates classes: 😬🚩 Not every Pilates class needs to look exactly the same, but there are some things I’d consider major red flags — especially when you’re paying for an instructor-led class. 1. Your instructor does the ENTIRE class with you Your instructor should be watching, observing and teaching — not simply doing their own workout at the front. If they’re moving the whole time, who is watching your alignment/form? 2. No corrections, alignment or individual attention Pilates is all about precision. Your instructor should be looking at alignment, technique and movement quality, and giving you corrections where needed. 3. No progressions, regressions or modifications Every body and every experience level is different. A good instructor should be able to make an exercise more accessible — or more challenging — depending on the person in front of them. 4. The class is rushed If you’re flying through exercises just to keep up with the music, that’s not the controlled movement Pilates is known for. Slow down. Control the movement. Actually feel what you’re doing. 5. The music is running the class 🚩 There’s nothing wrong with music in Pilates, but when the instructor is choreographing exercises to the beat, rushing transitions or counting to the music instead of cueing the movement… The movement should come first. 6. No breath, neutral spine/pelvis or foundational cueing Breathing and alignment aren’t optional extras in Pilates. Your instructor should be teaching you how to find and maintain your neutral pelvis/spine and use your breath to support the movement. 7. It’s basically HIIT in disguise If the entire class is designed around speed, sweat, burnout and seeing how many reps you can squeeze in… you might be doing HIIT, not Pilates. Pilates can absolutely be challenging — but the challenge comes from control, precision, strength and endurance, not simply moving as fast as possible. Pilates isn’t just a collection of exercises, it’s a Method🤍. #pilates #holistichealth #lifestyle #strength #flexibility

Listen, I grew up in Indian immigrant. I still freak out at these prices. $40-50 for drop in Pilates class! I love going to classes, but I also remember that true health and longevity really happens outside of the gym or any class. It’s in the little walks you do after you eat, it’s in the food that you choose, it’s in movement you do in nature, etc..
Everyone else dancing, smiling, cursing and suffering through their Pilates class too or just me? 😂
When the music hits and you completely go rogue in your Pilates class. 😆 Sorry, Jen! This was definitely not part of the lesson plan. Anyone else?
