We headed down to the Port of Port Townsend (one of our awesome sponsors) to watch Jeff Galey, member-owner of the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-Op, launch Isswat just in time for Festival! Built in Whiskey Cove, Alaska, in 1948, Isswat spent her working life as a troller, gillnetter, log camp boat and tug before Jeff began restoring her in 2018. After new frames, decks, tanks, wiring, plumbing, an engine and a whole lot more, she’s back in the water and ready for Festival. Isswat also carries some pretty spooky lore we didn’t get into in the video—so when you step aboard at this year’s Festival, be sure to ask Jeff about it. See you there!

A small town feel with a big heart. Port Townsend has become one of our favorite places to take a drive, explore the food scene & simply hang out by the water. Preparations for the 49th annual Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival have been well underway down at Point Hudson! The NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding & Marine Systems tent is set up near the main entrance - you can’t miss it. On Thursday we get to watch the talented Festival Harbormasters slide boats of every size and shape into position, and then Friday morning is the official start. My neighbors are the heart of my work in Congress. One of the best parts of this job is coming home to WA-06 and seeing firsthand the talent, resilience, and care that make our community so special. From touring Port Townsend’s Wastewater Treatment Center and Vulcan Metals to spending the morning with kids at Manitou Park Elementary’s Head Start program, I’m constantly reminded how much strength and promise exists across our district. I’ll never stop fighting to make sure every neighbor in WA-06 has the opportunity to thrive.
