When were they being manufactured? And most importantly... Does anyone still have one standing on their farm? There must be plenty of people around Ireland who remember these sheds being erected, worked in them or perhaps still use one today. Portlaoise retailer Eamonn Donegan has been reflecting on a lifetime in business, just weeks after his family closed a shop that had traded in the town for 97 years. The business was opened by his father, Alo Donegan, in 1929. Mr Donegan began working there in 1966 and remained for 60 years, watching the shop evolve from bicycles to televisions, records, fishing tackle and electronic goods. Mr Donegan said Portlaoise town centre had changed dramatically during his time in business, with traditional retailers disappearing and shopping increasingly moving elsewhere. “We have to accept that business has changed all over. What’s to happen in the foreseeable future, God only knows.” #ireland #portlaoise
