That’s cost estimating — and it’s the role the whole project leans on. → Before a shovel hits dirt, the estimate decides if the project happens at all. Get it wrong and the owner walks, or worse, the job starts and runs out of money halfway. → Every bid you compare, every change order you approve, every dollar spent gets measured against the estimate. → Contractors bid to win. Estimators exist so the owner knows what’s real and what’s padded. → When something goes sideways — a material spike, a design change, a delay — the estimator is who tells you what it costs before the decision gets made, not after. Nobody notices a good estimate. Everybody notices a bad one. It’s not glamorous work.
