🚨Parent Tips: School starts soon, and I’m sharing fun ways parents can help their child practice letters at home! ✏️ Today’s letter is E! Try writing it on paper, in shaving cream, with chalk, or even in the air. As your child writes, encourage them to say the letter name and its sound. Even though about half of my class are students I had last year, we have lots of new faces this year. That means it was time for our “Hickety Pickety” song! 🎶💕 This was a huge favorite in my classroom last year, especially because we changed up the movements throughout the year to keep it fun and engaging! In this video, you’ll see me breaking down the movements slowly before we put everything together. Before that, I also broke down the words and modeled the full sentence response: “My name is…” And if you think about it, we’re working on SO many skills through just one simple song! 👏 🎶 Learning names 🗣️ Building oral language 👂 Listening & following directions 🧠 Memory & recall 🤸‍♀️ Gross motor skills 💬 Practicing complete sentences This is such a great reminder of how children truly learn from play!🥰 #msjasmine #msjkeytokinder #prek #backtoschool #namesong

Today was a big day for our family. Dropping Lennox off for Pre-K was harder than we ever imagined it would be, for us. As the parents of a neurodivergent, nonverbal little boy, there are so many emotions wrapped up in this moment. Most parents worry when they leave their child for the first time. We do too. But there's an added layer when your child can't tell you about his day, can't tell you if he's scared, frustrated, excited, or proud. We've spent every day learning how to understand him without words, advocating for him, protecting him, and making sure his needs are met. Handing that responsibility over to someone else, even for a few hours, is one of the biggest acts of faith we've ever made. When Lennox was born at just 29 weeks, there were so many unknowns. Since then, we've celebrated every milestone, every victory, and every bit of progress that others might take for granted. Watching him walk into Pre-K today reminded us just how far he has come. To his teachers, thank you in advance for loving, teaching, encouraging, and believing in our little boy. You are receiving the most precious part of our hearts. While Lennox may not communicate with words, he has so much to say through his smile, his personality, and the joy he brings to those who know him. Today we're choosing faith over fear. We're trusting that this next chapter will help him grow, learn, build confidence, and continue becoming the incredible little boy God created him to be. So if you see me crying a little today, just know it's because my heart is full—full of pride, gratitude, hope, and a little bit of worry too. We love you, Lennox. Can you believe it’s already been 2 weeks since our last day of school? ☀️ We’re still smiling over these sweet moments as our PreK students signed out for the very last time and closed the chapter on an incredible year. From first-day jitters to confident goodbyes, they’ve grown so much — and we couldn’t be prouder. “Use your words” only works if we give them the words first. 💛 At the beginning of the year, we spend so much time teaching routines, how to clean up, where materials belong, and what to do throughout the day. Social emotional skills need that same explicit teaching. We can’t just tell a child to “solve the problem” or “tell them how you feel” and expect them to know what to say. We have to model it, practice it, role play it, and give them the actual language they can use. “Please stop.” “I don’t like that.” “I’m feeling uncomfortable.” “I need more space.” These are BIG skills for our little learners. Teaching children what a boundary is, how to communicate their own boundaries, and how to respect someone else’s gives them tools they can actually use when problems happen in the classroom. One of my favorite ways to teach this is through music because we all know how quickly Pre K children remember a song. This one is “The Setting Boundaries Song” by Hopscotch Songs, written by Joanna Pace and Matt Pace. 🎶 We use this little part often! Especially at the beginning of the year, don’t assume they already know how to handle these situations. Teach it. Model it. Sing about it. Role play it. Then practice it again when those real classroom moments happen. We aren’t just telling them to solve problems.
