No coach in college or high school truly has the time or the emotional capacity to care about every player. Iām not saying weāre trying to be your father figure, but what I can say is this: I care, and I genuinely want to help you get better at baseball. Thatās the whole point.
This game is hard. I wish I had someone to talk to my first couple years in pro ball when I was struggling, confused, and had no idea what I was doing. Sure, I talked to my pitching coachā¦ but he never really had anything that helped me. He was a decent pitcher, but he wasnāt good at helping me channel my emotions, or asking how I was doing off the field. He didnāt have the time ā he had 40 other guys to worry about. At the end of the day, all that matters to most coaches is whoās performing right now and who can get people out.
So understand this: when you get in-season, youāre going to deal with things. Thatās normal. Itās just baseball.
If you have your dad or someone close guiding you, thatās amazing. If you donāt? Then thatās where we come in.
Itās not just about āhelp me throw 95ā or āgive me the right drill.ā Once the season starts, itās about competing, staying confident, staying positive, and managing the mental side that nobody talks about.
