One small Procreate setting can make a huge difference to your workflow. ✨ Instead of filling colour directly on your line art, use the Reference Layer feature to keep your outline and colours on separate layers. How to do it: 1. Draw your outline on a separate layer and make sure the shape is completely closed. 2. Tap the outline layer, select Reference from the Layer Options. 3. Create a new layer above or below the outline layer. 4. Drag and drop your desired colour inside the shape. 5. Procreate will use the outline as a reference, filling only the object while keeping the outline and colour on separate layers. This is how you can avoid the color “bleeding” when you want to color block your drawings using the drag and drop colors over a sketch marked as “reference”: 1. Your sketch layer should be marked as “reference”. 2. Place a new layer under your sketch. 3. With that new layer selected drag and drop the color you want over the screen and hold. 4. A “threshold” option will appear at the top, allowing you to slide the intensity of the filling. 5. Press “continue filling” if you want to keep using the same color or just pick a new one and repeat the process.
