Cancel culture isn't the problem-- it's a symptom. What are your thoughts?

Yes remember this face because this is not someone who should become a doctor. I’m horrified that a medical student could find this appropriate. We live in an era where we are trying to stamp our violence and objectification of women. Where women find it difficult to trust doctors. @instagram needs to do better. Verify healthcare professionals with a green tick ✅ and start cleaning up what people and or kids see. 🤮we need to hold healthcare professionals to account. This violates all human decency and clearly is in breach of social media guidelines. #violenceagainstwomen
During the 2023 Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Baltimore, a shocking moment unfolded when a man walked onto the stage and confronted a senior OB-GYN in front of a large audience. In viral footage, the man is seen striking the physician while accusing him of sexually assaulting his wife years earlier while she was a trainee doctor.
Police later confirmed they responded to the incident on May 20, 2023. According to reports, the physician declined to press charges and instead requested that the man be escorted out of the conference. The confrontation quickly spread online and sparked intense discussion within the medical community about trainee safety, professional conduct, and accountability.

After watching this highly offensive reel, two points come to mind. First, as the father of a daughter, I never want her to be ashamed of her body. Second, as a healthcare provider, I fear that posts like this may promulgate barriers in women’s healthcare including under diagnosing certain conditions. While the post appears to have been based in immaturity rather than malice, it would have been nice to see Nick issue an apology before taking his social media pages down.

In a dramatic scene that has since gone viral, a man interrupted a medical conference in Baltimore to confront a senior OBGYN, whom he accused of sexually assaulting his wife seven years prior. The incident occurred during the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) 2023 Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting. In the widely shared footage, the husband is seen walking onto the stage and physically striking the doctor before declaring to the stunned audience that the physician had targeted his wife while she was a trainee doctor.
Following the confrontation, Baltimore Police confirmed they responded to the physical assault at the conference on May 20, 2023. The physician, whose identity was not initially released in the police report, declined to file criminal charges or a formal report against the husband, requesting instead that the man simply be escorted from the premises. The video sparked significant discussion within the medical community regarding professional misconduct and the safety of medical trainees, while ACOG later addressed the viral event in an internal email to its members.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the suspension?

Future, current, or retired doctors — no one should mock a patient’s body.
As a board-certified OB-GYN, I see how anxious and vulnerable patients feel every day. Professionalism doesn’t stop online. Act professional.
Part of being a healthcare professional is recognizing that our words carry weight — online and offline. #profesionalism #women #bodyshaming #mocking #respect

Medicine isn’t for everyone. It’s ok if it’s not right for you. But part of being a physician is recognizing the power differential between patients and physicians. Punching down is never appropriate. I hope this young man learns his lesson.
Thanks to @drjenniferlincoln for these videos—I think he removed them from his page. But the internet is forever.

She never practiced “one-to-one medicine,” she was never on her own.
