We can’t protect our oceans and the life within them without marine protected areas (MPAs). MPAs are designated ocean zones where human activity is managed to protect marine life and fragile ecosystems. Like national parks on land, well-enforced MPAs play a vital role in supporting biodiversity, maintaining healthy food webs, and strengthening the overall health of our planet. But more than 60% of MPAs worldwide are not well enforced — leaving critical habitats vulnerable to destructive illegal fishing and other threats. From Palau to Ecuador to Mexico and beyond, WildAid’s marine team works alongside governments and local partners to help MPAs function as they’re intended: through better enforcement, coordination, and on-the-water protection. You can help strengthen your local MPA, too: -Learn where your nearest MPA is and spread awareness about why it matters. -When visiting an MPA, respect fishing, boating, and wildlife guidelines. -Volunteer with local MPA programs, community science efforts, or coastal cleanups that support marine protection. 🐋 Did You Know? A whale calf is usually born tail-first to reduce the risk of drowning during birth. Right after delivery, the mother gently guides her baby to the surface for its very first breath and stays close to protect it during its early days. 💙 Nature’s first lesson is a mother’s care.#whale #ocean #explore #stem #growth
Every dive is an opportunity to make a difference 🌊🤿 Watch our latest #DiveWisdom video to hear how divers can help protect the ocean and make a positive impact beneath the surface 💙 🎥 @tianioceani #ScubaSkills #ScubaDiving #SaveTheOcean
🐙 From Tiny Eggs to an Adult Octopus 🌊 | Nature Reborn The ocean hides one of nature's most incredible life cycles. 🌊🐙 Watch a mother octopus carefully protect thousands of tiny eggs inside her underwater den. See the baby octopuses hatch, drift through the ocean, and slowly grow into a powerful adult octopus. 🌿 Inspired by real marine life. 🎬 Cinematic AI Nature Animation. 💙 Which sea creature should I create next? 🦈 Your reminder of the day: Healthy oceans need sharks. Sharks play a very important role in keeping ocean ecosystems in balance. They keep prey populations in check and feed on old and sick fish, helping to keep the overall population healthier. Oceana campaigns to protect sharks from threats like overfishing and habitat loss, it’s more important than ever that we protect them. Join us in supporting these iconic animals today with the link in bio.
The ocean is the world's largest ecosystem and sustains all life on Earth—and yet we know very little about it. With 1,000+ endorsed Actions, the #OceanDecade brings together scientists and experts worldwide to better understand and protect the ocean. Learn more at www.oceandecade.org.
Fun Fact: Some fish have one of the most incredible parenting strategies in the animal kingdom. 🐟❤️ Species like cichlids and tilapia protect their babies by keeping them safely inside their mouths—a behavior called mouthbrooding. When danger appears, the tiny fish quickly swim into their mother’s mouth for protection before being released again once the coast is clear. It’s a remarkable survival technique that shows a mother’s instinct to protect her young exists far beyond humans. 🌊✨ #Nature #Wildlife #Ocean #AmazingAnimals #FunFacts
🌊 How Do Sea Walls Protect the Coast? Sea walls are engineered coastal defense structures designed to absorb, reflect, and dissipate the immense energy of ocean waves. They help prevent coastal erosion, protect roads, buildings, ports, and communities from storm surges, high tides, and flooding. In this reel, watch how sea walls work through realistic technical animation and understand the engineering principles that keep coastlines safe. 💡 Key Concepts: • Wave impact and energy dissipation • Curved and vertical sea wall designs • Toe protection against scouring • Reinforced concrete and rock armor • Drainage to relieve water pressure • Erosion control and shoreline stabilization • Protection during storms and high tides 📚 Follow The SuperStructure for more civil engineering animations, coastal engineering, and infrastructure insights. #civilengineering #construction #education #reels #instagood
Mother Whale Shields Her Calf From Whale Sharks A young whale calf is crowded by massive whale sharks until its mother moves in to protect it. Whale sharks are gentle filter feeders, so this scene shows dangerous crowding, not an attack. A tense but respectful ocean encounter beneath the blue. 🌊🐋 #WhaleFacts #WhaleShark #HumpbackWhale #MarineBiology #NatureDocumentary
As a fishing guide I am on the river a lot chasing salmon and I absolutely have high respect for these guys. What looks like just a tiny fish today is part of an incredible journey—born in the gravel, growing in the river, heading out to the ocean, and someday returning to the same waters to continue the cycle. Being this close to young salmon is a good reminder of how much depends on healthy rivers and clean water. These little fish are the future of our salmon runs, our wildlife, and a way of life that means a lot to so many of us. I love catching salmon, but I want to see them here for generations to come even more. #Protect the habitat. Protect the runs. Protect the future of Alaska salmon. ❤️🐟 #Alaska #Salmon #SalmonLifeCycle #SaveOurSalmon KenaiRiver AlaskaFishing SalmonConservation

Mission Blue turns hope into action for the ocean. 🩵 On August 30, Mission Blue will celebrate its first Founder’s Day, a new tradition recognising Dr. Sylvia Earle’s birthday and the spirit that has always powered Mission Blue’s work: people coming together to protect the ocean. The future of the ocean is not fixed. This is our moment to change the trajectory from decline to recovery.
