Summer inspiration. Provence, when the days are long, exploring all those pretty villages, long lunches under a shady tree, afternoon lazing by the pool then heading to dinner. Some of my favourite French villages in this region include Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Saignon, Lacoste, Gordes and Roussillon. All are super close and lovely spots to pop in for lunch/dinner and to wander around. See below for my top picks. Have a great weekend!! 💙❤️🇫🇷

Welcome to Roussillon, one of the most beautiful villages in Provence and a must-see when exploring the South of France. This is the kind of place where you slow down and really soak in the magic of Provence.
Roussillon is famous for its stunning ochre cliffs and natural, earthy tones. The narrow cobblestone streets glow in warm reds, oranges, and yellows, especially under the Mediterranean sun , it feels like walking through a living painting.
Spend time around Place de la Mairie, where you’ll find small cafés and local boutiques, and don’t miss the Sentier des Ocres (Ochre Trail), a scenic walk through former ochre quarries that showcases the area’s natural beauty.
For lunch, La Grappe de Raisin is a lovely spot to enjoy French and European food with views over the village.
Have you heard of Roussillon, France before? It’s also one of the best places to try lavender ice cream — and yes, it’s delicious 💜
Top tip: If you’re visiting on a Thursday, there’s a small local market from 8am with over 30 vendors. Definitely worth a stop.

Just under an hour from Avignon, Roussillon is often called one of Provence’s most colourful villages and it’s easy to see why. Perched on ancient ochre cliffs in the Luberon, this hilltop village feels like stepping into a living painting.
With glowing red, orange, and golden buildings, winding cobbled streets, and dramatic cliffside views, Roussillon feels almost unreal. Once a major ochre mining town, its colours come straight from the earth beneath your feet. Surrounded by vineyards, lavender fields, and hiking trails, it’s the perfect stop for slow travel, nature, and photography.
One of the most beautiful villages in Provence, Roussillon is an essential stop on any South of France itinerary.
☕️Spend time around Place de la Mairie, where you’ll find small cafés & local boutiques.
📸Don’t miss the Sentier des Ocres (Ochre Trail) a scenic walk through former ochre quarries that shows off Roussillon’s unreal natural colours.
Where to eat 🍽️
For lunch, La Grappe de Raisin is a lovely choice, serving French and European dishes with views over the village.
Did you know? 💜
Roussillon is one of the best places to try lavender ice cream and yes, it’s actually delicious.
