Ragnar Lothbrok, a legendary Viking king and warrior who is said to have lived in the 9th century. Whether he was real or legendary is a matter of debate—most historians believe he was not a single individual, but rather a composite of several Viking leaders who lived during that era (notably Reginherus, who besieged Paris in 845). This is because there is no direct archaeological evidence of him, and the information comes from sagas written centuries later. Briefly about his life: Origins: He is said to be the son of the Danish King Sigurd Ring. He is also known as Ragnar Sigurdsson. The nickname Lothbrok: Means "shaggy breeches / hairy breeches" in Old Norse. According to one legend, it comes from the hairy pants he wore while fighting a venomous serpent/dragon. What he did: He became the king of Denmark and Sweden. He launched major expeditions against France and England. His tactics were clever—he used rivers to penetrate deep inland and attacked cities on Sundays while Christians were attending church services. In 845, he captured Paris with 120 ships and 5,000 warriors, securing a ransom from King Charles the Bald. Family: According to sagas, he had three wives: the shieldmaiden Lagertha, Thora, and Aslaug. His most famous sons were Bjorn Ironside, Ivar the Boneless, Ubbe, Hvitserk, and Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye. The existence of these sons has been historically proven. Death: According to the most famous legend, he was captured in England by King Aella of Northumbria and executed by being thrown into a pit full of venomous snakes. In revenge, his sons invaded England with the Great Heathen Army. #vikings #ragnar #reels

Ragnar Lothbrok had spent years chasing greatness. He wanted to explore new lands, become a great king, build something his people would remember, and leave his name behind in history. But somewhere along the way, he lost the things that once made him truly happy. In this emotional moment, Ragnar is alone on the boat when he suddenly sees something that feels almost impossible. A white horse in the distance… and then, for a brief moment, his past seems to come back to him. He sees the life he once had. Lagertha. Young Bjorn. Gyda. The people and memories that belonged to a different version of Ragnar. For a man who had spent so much of his life looking toward the future, this moment forces him to look backward. He doesn't see the king everyone fears. He sees the man he used to be. The farmer. The husband. The father. And when Lagertha reaches out her hand, almost as if asking him to come back, Ragnar becomes overwhelmed with emotion. Because sometimes the hardest thing isn't losing someone… It's realizing that no matter how powerful you become, you can never go back to the life you once had. Ragnar had conquered lands. He had become a legend. He had gained power and fame. But none of those things could bring back the people or the life he had lost. And then, just as quickly as the vision appears… it's gone. Ragnar is left alone again. Maybe that is what makes this scene so heartbreaking. For one brief moment, the legendary Viking doesn't look like a king. He looks like a man who misses home. 🥀 Vikings — Season 4, Episode 12: “The Vision” Follow @bygonemovies #Vikings #RagnarLothbrok #TravisFimmel #viral #trending
