1. Let her leave you a voicemail and never delete it. Someday that tiny voice saying “Mommy” will belong to a grown woman.
2. Ask her what she loves most about herself.Write down her answer before the world has a chance to make her question it.
3. Let her teach YOU something she knows how to do. Sit there, get it wrong, and let her be the expert for once.
4. Take her on a date and let her watch you get ready for HER. Put on the outfit. Do your hair. Tell her, “Of course I dressed up. I’m going somewhere special with you.”
5. Tell her about the first moment you realized who she was becoming.
Not when she was born. The moment you thought, Ohhhh…this is who you are.
6. Make a list together of things that make her feel most like herself.
Keep it somewhere safe. She might need that list again at 16…or 36.
7. Tell her she never has to make herself smaller to stay close to you. She can grow. Change. Disagree with you. Become completely her own person.
And there will always be room for all of her here.
Because raising daughters isn’t about keeping our little girls little.
