As always, my videos do not apply to every situation and are not replacements for professional support. OCD can manifest differently and relationships all look different. Specifically, this type of language is not meant to be used as a way to avoid or hurt a partner. This is more in the context of an overall safe and loving relationship. We can not engage with the OCD part of one’s brain while still supporting a loved one emotionally. Same goes with the person living with these thoughts. Usually in the moment it’s hard and uncomfortable and all these videos may go out the window. I understand it can feel so real and like it’s the end of the world in those moments. I see you and acknowledge how tough it is. ROCD especially is no joke and affects all involved - ideally you show up as a team, even when the thoughts try to convince you both otherwise. #ocdawareness #relationshipocd #rocd #relationshipanxiety
When someone you love has OCD, the instinct is often to help them feel better in the moment. You answer their reassurance questions. Help them avoid the trigger. Even engage in compulsions with them. It makes sense because you care about them, and at first, it may seem like an easy thing you can do to help them feel better. But those seemingly supportive actions can unintentionally feed the OCD cycle. OCD pulls loved ones in by asking for reassurance, avoidance, or help with compulsions. Over time, families can end up stuck in the cycle right alongside the person with OCD. Real support doesn’t make space for OCD. As difficult as it can be, helping your loved one face the discomfort without feeding the compulsions is what truly supports their wellness. Families can be one of the most powerful parts of recovery when they understand the difference between supporting the person and supporting the OCD. #ocdawareness #ocd #ocdrecovery #ocdtherapist #counselor ____________ Disclaimer: This account is for education, psychoeducation, and entertainment purposes only. Back to Basics: Understanding OCD What is the difference between an obsession and a compulsion? Simply put: an obsession is the thing you fear. A compulsion is the thing you DO about the fear. Obsessions are the drivers of the OCD. Compulsions are the coping mechanisms with the OCD. In general the OCD cycle starts with an intrusive thought, feeling, or sensation that sparks an obsession. The obsession gives you anxiety. You try to stop the anxiety through a compulsion. You feel temporarily better because of the compulsion, but the good feeling fades and the cycle continues. #ocd #ocdhelp #ocdtherapy #ocdtherapist #ocdrecovery
OCD doesn’t always look like checking locks or washing hands. Sometimes it shows up as confessing compulsions. You might notice someone is attractive and suddenly feel an intense urge to tell your partner immediately. Not because you want to… but because OCD convinces you that not confessing means you’re being dishonest, immoral, or hiding something. But here’s the reality: If we told our partners every single thought that crossed our minds all day, it would be overwhelming for everyone. That urge to confess is often just another compulsion driven by anxiety and reassurance seeking. A big part of OCD recovery is learning to let the thought exist without acting on it — even when the anxiety says you need to confess. Thoughts ≠ actions. #OCD #RelationshipOCD #ROCD #IntrusiveThoughts #OCDRecovery #MentalHealthAwareness #OCDAwareness #AnxietyRecovery #ERPtherapy #MentalHealthEducation #Therapy #Psychology #MentalHealthMatters

It’s very difficult to explain to someone who doesn’t understand OCD…but comments like “Just stop thinking about it” (although often said with the best of intentions) can make the individual feel all the more isolated 😩🫶 Instead, try to be supportive but without offering reassurance 🤝 ➡️ “I know this is difficult but you’re not alone in this.” ➡️ “Take your time, there’s no rush.” ➡️ “Lets find some ways to manage this together.” If you love someone with ROCD, I have something exciting on it’s way for you 🫵 #ocdrecovery #rocd #relationshipocd #ocdtherapist #ocdproblems
