Before Evergreen had subdivisions, it had dynasties. 🏇 San Felipe Road is one of San Jose’s oldest corridors — tracing back to a Spanish land grant in the 1700s and the Chaboya family’s 25,000-acre cattle empire. By 1860, a schoolhouse and general store defined the community. Then in 1911, a man launched 55 glider flights at the corner of San Felipe and Yerba Buena — and his wing designs still show up in modern aircraft today. That intersection is now a California Historical Landmark. Most people drive it every day without knowing any of this. Cambrian Park got its name from a homesick ranch hand from Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 In the 1870s, David Lewis was working the Casey Ranch in South San Jose when the community needed a name for its new school. He reached back across the Atlantic and pulled Cambria, the ancient Latin name for Wales. One nostalgic moment in a one-room schoolhouse became the identity of an entire San Jose neighborhood.
