Before a robot can move, it first needs to work out which joint angles will place its end effector at the target. That's the job of inverse kinematics. For a simple two-link robot like this, the solution comes from geometry. By treating the links and the target as a triangle, it can calculate the missing angles needed to reach the target position. This doesn't just apply to robot arms. Inverse kinematics is used in humanoid robots, quadrupeds, surgical robots, animation, and many other robotic systems whenever a desired position needs to be converted into joint movements. Want to learn how to implement this in code or try my interactive IK arm model? Developed by robotics researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP Lab, this machine achieves a Dynamic Isotropy score of 0.98—essentially meaning it exerts identical force and acceleration whether it’s moving forward, backward, or upside down. While a traditional quadruped wastes massive computational power and energy reorienting its chassis to face an obstacle, Argus uses a custom distributed control loop to coordinate its 20 legs and 20 integrated cameras simultaneously. This architecture mimics the nervous system of an echinoderm, allowing it to jam itself between two crumbling walls and climb upward using outward radial pressure without a centralized “head” guiding the way. If three legs snap or five cameras fail in a disaster zone, the remaining matrix automatically recalculates the physics model in real-time to keep the mission alive. This is exactly the kind of deep engineering shift we deconstruct daily so you can actually understand where automation is heading before it hits the mainstream. Follow @thevelo.ai to stay ahead of the curve. We are rapidly building a future where biomimicry is obsolete and superior, non-humanoid geometry will dominate real-world robotics. @penn_grasp #robotics #biomimicry #roboticsengineering #autonomousrobots #hardwareengineering
Meet Porcospino Flex - a flexible inspection robot developed at the University of Genoa. Instead of relying on a conventional rigid body, the lightweight robot uses a flexible, compliant design that helps it adapt mechanically to uneven terrain and move through tight, messy spaces. That could make machines like this particularly useful for inspecting rubble and other locations that may be dangerous or difficult for people to enter. The University of Genoa is actively researching autonomous robots for environmental monitoring, search-and-rescue operations and catastrophic-event response, where robots could help gather information while reducing risks to human rescuers. Small, adaptable robots like Porcospino Flex show how future rescue technology may reach places where conventional machines struggle. #PorcospinoFlex #Robotics #Robot #DisasterResponse #SearchAndRescue #UniversityOfGenoa #Engineering #Innovation #FutureTech #EmergingTech #TechForGood #Technology #RescueRobot #RoboticsEngineering #alchetron #viral Read more : https://alchetron.com/Robotics
🎥 Video: KNITREAL 📌 Kaynaklar: RoboSkin ürün bilgileri, KNITREAL #RoboSkin #HumanoidRobots #RoboticsEngineering #FutureTech #DataMesa
How Humanoid Robots Actually Walk and Balance | Robotics Engineering Explained Every time a humanoid robot takes a step, it's technically falling forward in a controlled way — a single miscalculated point of balance and the entire machine collapses. Here's the real engineering stack that keeps it upright, thousands of times per second. In this deep dive, explore the precise 8-stage engineering process behind humanoid robots: • Structural skeleton — 6061-T6 aluminum and carbon-fiber frame with 28 degrees of freedom • Joint actuation — brushless DC motors paired with 100:1 harmonic drives delivering 150+ Nm torque • Sensor suite — 6-axis IMU at 1kHz, ankle force/torque sensors, and stereo depth cameras • Sensor fusion — onboard SoC and extended Kalman filtering for real-time state estimation • Balance control — Zero Moment Point (ZMP) stabilization within a dynamic support polygon • Bipedal locomotion — inverted-pendulum gait cycles completing in ~1.1 seconds per stride • Manipulation — tendon-driven fingers with tactile feedback for slip-prevention grasp control • Power and thermal systems — 250 Wh/kg lithium-ion cells with liquid cooling below 85°C From aluminum skeleton to real-time balance math, humanoid robots are less "walking machines" and more continuously self-correcting control systems built to survive gravity. humanoid robot engineering explained, how humanoid robots work, humanoid robot actuators, zero moment point robotics, bipedal robot walking mechanics, robot sensor fusion, harmonic drive robotics, humanoid robot hand design, robotics control systems, humanoid robot balance control, inverted pendulum walking robot, robot power and cooling system, ZMP stabilization robot, tendon driven robotic hand, dynamic walking gait robot #HumanoidRobot #RoboticsEngineering #STEM #MechanicalEngineering #ControlSystems Robotics EngineeringExplained Actuators AIRobotics Biomechanics IndustrialTech FutureTech
MIT and EPFL engineers built a flapping-wing aerial-aquatic vehicle that can swim underwater, break through the surface and continue flying. The FAAV weighs under 300 grams and uses flexible wings plus a steerable tail to handle both water and air. In tests, it swam at nearly 1 meter per second and flew at about 6 meters per second. The team sees a future where researchers send it toward dangerous or hard-to-reach waters, collect measurements or samples, and fly the data back. ‎Source: MITMechE on X ‎if you're money-minded like me ‎ ‎Follow us @habibibillionaire more reels Like this reels ‎ ‎DM for credit or removal request (no copyright intended) All rights and reserved to the respective owner(s) ‎ ‎#SystemsThinking#SuccessLogic#Biomimicry#DidYouKnow#RoboticsEngineering

A robot that balances on one sphere and moves in any direction simultaneously. No wheels. No legs. No turning radius. Just a ball and perfect balance. 🤖⚪💀 Every robot ever built chose a direction. Here’s what makes Rollbot genuinely different 👇 🔵 Single spherical wheel — one contact point with the ground 🔵 True omnidirectional movement — any direction without repositioning 🔵 360° mobility — no turning radius, no blind spots, no wasted motion 🔵 Dynamic balancing — maintains stability while moving in any vector 🔵 3D printed — built by one engineer, at home Here’s the physics insight 👇 Every wheeled robot turns by stopping one wheel and accelerating another. Every legged robot turns by repositioning its body. Rollbot just moves. Any direction. Any speed. Simultaneously. No mechanical compromise. No wasted motion. Just intention translated directly into movement. 👀 The most elegant robots don’t walk or roll in straight lines. They balance on a sphere and go wherever physics allows. 💀🤖 📍Credits : @xrobotsuk Save this — the Rollbot is the locomotion concept that makes every wheeled robot look mechanically compromised. 🔖 Follow for weekly breakdowns on the robotics quietly rewriting how machines move. #Rollbot #XRobotsUK #OmnidirectionalRobot #SphericalRobot #Robotics RoboticsEngineering FutureTech AutonomousRobots RoboticsInnovation TechNews
PID Control: The Hidden Algorithm Behind Robotics. 🤖⚙️ You may not see it, but PID control is everywhere in robotics. From robot arms and mobile robots to motors and industrial automation, PID helps machines maintain precise motion, speed and position. P — reacts to the current error I — corrects accumulated error D — responds to the rate of change No AI. No machine learning. Just control theory working behind the scenes to make robots move accurately and consistently.
