🎬 Fact: Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) This Mel Brooks parody offers a humorous spin on the Robin Hood legend, specifically targeting the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves for comedic effect. In this scene, Broomhilde (Megan Cavanagh) prays for her “one true love” right before a man bursts through the roof into her bed. Notably, Cary Elwes, the film’s star, performed many stunts, including the roof crash. The film marks Dave Chappelle’s debut as Ahchoo. Mel Brooks’ diverse casting was both a comedic choice and a progressive statement.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) is a parody film directed by Mel Brooks that humorously reimagines the legendary tale of Robin Hood through exaggerated comedy, satire, and self-aware jokes. Starring Cary Elwes as Robin of Loxley, the film pokes fun at classic Robin Hood stories as well as earlier film adaptations, most notably Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, by breaking the fourth wall and leaning heavily into wordplay and visual gags. The Merry Men are portrayed as an intentionally diverse and absurd group, each embodying comedic stereotypes that highlight Brooks’s trademark irreverence. Musical numbers, slapstick humor, and anachronistic references drive the film’s playful tone, while still loosely following the familiar narrative of resisting Prince John’s tyranny. Though initially met with mixed reviews, Men in Tights has since become a cult favorite, appreciated for its quotable lines, fearless silliness, and enduring place in the tradition of classic spoof comedies.
