😰 Ok, I get it… it can feel really terrifying to even entertain that “EVEN IF” thought… BUT, part of the problem is, if we can’t acknowledge the remote possibility of that “EVEN IF” thought happening, we are signaling to our brain that we’re so fearful of it that it must be incredibly scary and dangerous. 👉 So for example, instead of staying stuck in the thought, “What if I lose my job over this?”, shift that to, “Even if I lose my job over this, I’ll use my savings or get a short-term loan (or whatever resources you can brainstorm!) to get by for a little bit while I find a new job”. 💪 There’s something powerful about facing the hard possibilities, and saying, “No, I obviously don’t WANT that to happen, but if it does, I will be OK. I will do whatever it takes to take care of myself and get to the other side. I’ve got gotten through really hard things before, and I will do it again if I need to.” Then, release yourself from worrying about it and move on with your day. This takes practice, but it’s an important step in helping you not to ruminate on those worst case scenarios. That rumination does nothing but ignite your anxiety response even further! Do you struggle with lots of “What if” thoughts? If so, you’re certainly not alone… it’s one of the more common manifestation of anxiety. I love so much about this concept because it keeps you grounded. So many times we make the wrong decision because we are anticipating the worst case scenario, but we never once stopped to think about the best case scenario. Also the therapist I was speaking about in the second half of the video is @dinalynee (her video is on TT) pls check out her video! #healingtrauma #ruminating #lettinggo #toxicrelationship

absolutely groundbreaking :,) still so hard to accept
It is common for people struggling with OCD and anxiety to ruminate for hours a day, and to many times not even realize when they are ruminating. Other times, people can feel that they are reflecting on a situation when they are really just ruminating! Understanding the difference between the two processes is a helpful first step👍 #ruminating #reflection #OCD #anxiety #CBT
You’re not broken. You’re just stuck in the analyzing loop — and spoiler alert: the loop is the real problem. Not autism. Not BPD. Not [insert 87th thing you Googled last night]. OCD and anxiety will have you obsessing over what you’re feeling anxious about, but the truth? It doesn’t actually matter what comes after the word “about.” What matters is that you’re constantly analyzing — and that’s the cycle we need to break. If your brain’s been on overdrive trying to figure out what’s really wrong with you, THIS is your wake-up call: You don’t need another label. You need to shut down the compulsion to mentally spin. 🧠 Ready to interrupt the spiral for good? Comment or DM MENTAL and I’ll send you a link to my Mental Compulsion Mini Course. This is where we stop solving, start living. Where you learn how to finally get out of your head — and actually move forward. Let’s break the cycle. Let’s fix the real problem. We just had to share this one #Repost @wisdomofanxiety🙏🏻🌸#Beautiful ・・・ One of the great strategies of the anxious mind is to convince us that we don’t have a choice regarding how we respond to intrusive thoughts. Anxious and habitual brain writes this equation: Intrusive thought = alarm = ruminate until we “solve” this (unsolvable) problem. • This strategy keeps us on the hamster wheel of intrusive thoughts… endlessly. And if we think we solved one thought (by getting enough reassurance or by growing tired of it), another one pops up to replace it. This is what we refer to as the whac-a-mole of intrusive thoughts. • I know it’s hard, but we DO have a choice regarding how we respond to thoughts. And, as Frankl says, there IS a gap between stimulus (thought) and response (ruminating or not ruminating). When we remember to access that gap, we can CHOOSE not to ruminate. And therein lies our freedom. • But the story usually doesn’t stop there. What are left with when we make the brave choice to step off the hamster wheel of rumination? Groundlessness. Uncertainty. Grief. Sometimes fear. Sometimes disappointment. Sometimes loneliness. • In other words, we’re left with the messy and alive emotional mix that defines our humanity. It might feel daunting at first, but we’re designed to feel our feelings, and we can grow skills and muscles that allow us to feel more comfortable with big feelings. • As I wrote in “The Wisdom of Anxiety”: Emotions are manageable; anxiety is not. Anxious brain sends us the illusion of control but in the end, when we spend our time ruminating, we feel more and more out of control. It’s an endless maze. • But when we drop down into our hearts and feel our feelings, we learn that they move through us, we re-enter the river of life, and things becomes manageable again. • #intrusivethoughts #OCD #ruminating #anxietytools #wisdomofanxiety
