Words hurt but long runs on a treadmill hurt more đ 13 miles on the treadmill knocked out! 11.45 in 2 hours and additional 1.55 right after. How are you getting your miles in with snow on the road? #marathontraining

Lot of variation of these but this is the basic template of my favorite sessions when training for the marathon.
Not everyone needs VO2 work in there, but I found a mix of VO2 work, threshold work and sustained marathon pace efforts an ideal mix of training sessions.
Building miles back up for the next marathon training cycle. I'm taking more of a hybrid approach, lifting and running at a critical velocity pace to help my pace tempo. #marathontraining #runnersofinstagram #HoustonMarathon #running

Sometimes lifting feels heavy (see what I did there). But really, lifting is essential to being a healthy and strong runner! You donât need to overdo it. Find a day or two during the week, do 3 movements and call it a day! Trust me, youâll see your running become 10x as fun.

Training check-in!
The treadmill has been getting a lot of attention lately, but thatâs no problem. Thereâs a time and a place for everything. I use the treadmill as a tool, no different than a smart watch or a heart rate sensor. Itâs all there to assist you in reaching your goals.
Here are the current paces Iâm using in training. A large chunk is spent in recovery and easy effort zones. Weâve also included some hill intervals to build power (8% inclines took me through there).
Training to paces isnât the end all be all, but itâs a good way to bring structure to what could be chaos. I take a more hybrid approach, training to paces for workouts and heart rate for easy/recovery runs. As always, figure out what works best for you and double down on it.
