Send a ladder…and maybe a snack? 🆘🚧 … The SEED project is a groundbreaking art installation in Stamford, Connecticut, featuring a retrofitted shipping container transformed into a 24-hour outdoor walk-up gallery. Created by artists @weverp and @willy_b.04, this initiative reimagines how communities engage with art outside the traditional gallery space. Launching on October 26, 2024, at Richmond Hill Riverwalk in Mill River Park, The SEED will enrich Stamford’s cultural scene with a rotating, seasonal showcase of nationally recognized and emerging local artists. In addition to these vibrant exhibits, The SEED will host art workshops and community activations around the structure, inviting everyone to help make the world a more colorful place. Seed Snail method update 🌱 Potted up the Queensland Blue squash from our seed snail experiment so I thought I would give you a few of my thoughts on the process. Love the idea of this, and it makes for a fun project. I’m not sold on the fact that it used less space, but I’d say it was comparable to using a 50 cell tray in a 10/20 flat. The roots did tangle a bit, but were easy enough at this stage to tease apart. Be careful how tall you make your snail, as the roots will grow to the bottom and your transplant container needs to be deep enough to accommodate them (if you aren’t moving them straight to the garden). We used strips of old feed bags as our material. They were free, had a blank surface to write the plant names on, and didn’t allow the plant roots to grow into them. Would definitely use them again if we grew with this method in the future. I noticed a tendency on my part to bury the seeds too deep in the rolls, which I never do in a seed cell tray. We still had a great germination rate though, other than the zinnia seeds I’d saved. For this first try we grew the squash, along with a couple varieties of cucumbers and zucchini, some watermelon, and the failed zinnia. I’ll retry those in a regular seed tray to find out if I planted too deep or if the issue was with my seeds. On a large scale, I think this method would be too time consuming to be practical. But it’s definitely effective and grew some nice healthy starts for us. And I’ll admit, unrolling the starts is weirdly satisfying 😄 Have you tried this method yet?
