Most SEN parents don’t realise they can get help with school transport
If you’re driving your child to school, you may be able to claim petrol costs back through a personal travel budget
And if you’re doing trips to different schools for siblings, this can also be included!
Save & send this to a parent who needs to know and follow me for more SEN tips that nobody tells us 💛

Does anyone else have to have this interaction on the daily? 🤣
Don't get me wrong some days I can get Immy on board...usually if it involves yarn but others there's just no convincing or bribery that will get this girl on board with the plans.
She doesn't want to leave the house...we ain't going
She doesn't want to switch up the TV programme that's been on repeat for the last week...it ain't happening
Let me know that I'm not the only one in daily negotiations with my autistic child?

13 years of being a SEN mum and these are the 3 things I’ve learnt… 😂👀
Parenting a child with autism and complex additional needs has taught me a LOT over the years. Some lessons are more useful than others! 😂
Sometimes you’ve just got to laugh at the chaos that comes with SEN and SEND parenting. ❤️
Fellow SEN mums and dads, what have YOU learnt along the way? 😂❤️

Listening is a skill. Let’s remember that skills aren’t effectively taught by forcing someone to understand them by yelling, threatening, or harshly dismissing them. They are most effectively taught with clear structure, kindness, consistency, repetition, and firmness. Let’s teach listening!

📣 SEN PARENTS 📣
How was your morning? Because ours looked like this 🥹
He was shaking, could barely talk and clearly had some physical response to the anxiety.
And he’s never had this reaction. Usually he’s angry, full on refusal and hard to control. But today was different. It was like genuine fear. And it broke me 😭
I came back from the school run and just cried, but don’t worry I spared filming that for your sake 😂 I just couldn’t shake the thought of ‘how is this ok? How are we expected to manage this as normal? How is this going to be our life for the next 10+ years?’
I totally understand teachers and kids need breaks. As a daughter of a teacher, I know this more than most.
But this rinse and repeat of anxiety and dysregulated behaviour, to then getting used to it and feeling safe with the routine, to then going on holiday again... and the cycle continues. And it’s exhausting. For parents, teachers and the kids.
I’m not saying that we need to abolish school holidays. But what I am saying is that we need support. For those waiting for a diagnosis, for parents leaving the school run in tears, for the teachers we hand them over kicking and screaming to, for those with lower level needs just as much as those with high needs.
Because a lot of us feel completely alone in this, asking for adjustments that schools just can’t make with the resources and funding they’ve got.
But for now, us SEN parents will just hold each other up so we can do the best for our babies. So if this was your morning too, then I see you ❤️
Drop me a follow for more honest SEN mum life because it gets pretty real round here.
We’ve got this ❤️🌈✨

SEN parents… please tell me I’m not alone 😂❤️
Tomorrow I’m driving a 500-mile round trip to pick up ONE piece of equipment for my son. 🚗😅
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done for your child? 👀👇

The iPad is not the problem. The judgement is.
The iPad at the table is not a failure. Or bad parenting.
It is how my SEN child can regulate, stay seated, and actually eat.
Different children need different tools. This one helps us get through dinner.

Child arrangements should be about children, not power and control. If every discussion becomes a battle, you may be dealing with more than ordinary co-parenting difficulties.

Sen parenting can be super lonely 😭 9 times out of 10 it’s just me and my youngest going to places on our own
Maybe:
You can’t take your kids to friends houses if it’s not safety proofed or because they don’t understand-
Or you’ve lost contact with any friends because this caring role is 24/7
Or you are so tired or lost your confidence to reach out
Whatever the reason- let’s see if we can get some parents to link up on this thread, tag any sen parents you know, so maybe next time they go out it can be together instead ❤️

Before your SEN child turns 18..here is your '7 things to do' checklist.
I'm a Special Needs Planner and autism mum. These are definitely 7 things I wish I'd known sooner!
1) Check if you need deputyship
2) Don't forget your own decision-making, check out LPAs for yourself too.
3) Talk to potential trustees and guardians
4) Write a letter of wishes
5) Be careful about money in their own name
6) Update your will, consider using a trust to protect a vulnerable young person
7) Don't leave it to the last minute - if you have a spare moment, try to tick one off the list.

Sometimes I wonder… if Michael could speak, would he ask me why people stare when he stims? And honestly, that thought breaks my heart a little.
Because when I look at my boys, I don’t see anything “odd” or something that needs to be stopped. I see happiness. I see regulation. I see excitement. I see little bodies feeling safe enough to be fully themselves.
Yes, people stare. And yes, I notice it.
But I will never teach my children to make themselves smaller just because the world doesn’t yet understand them.
If my son ever could ask me that question, I think the only honest answer would be this:
Some people don’t understand autistic joy yet.
But I do. And I always will 🤍
