Going back to work opened my eyes to so many flawed beliefs both in the disabled community and the non disabled work force. As people with disabilities we often expect the world to give a shit about our life and struggles. To be honest, most people don’t think about people with disabilities until it effects them in some way. And of course the humanitarian in me says, “We are people too, they should care,”; but the realist in me says, “Why should they care?” There’s a lot of people with disabilities doing incredible things, but there’s also a lot of people with disabilities just scraping to get by. I’m grateful for organizations like SpinalPedia who connect you with the resources you need to achieve ultimate independence and to create a real difference in your community. If we want the world to change, it starts with us. We have to put the effort in, beyond just simply existing, to achieve the results we desire. This is how I shift Adeep from the bed to the wheelchair (and vice versa) - we learnt this manoeuver from our physiotherapist @ksnr.rehab during Adeep’s rehabilitation after the accident.
