Before the turbo… before the 900… there was this. This is the Saab 92 — the very first Saab production car, introduced in 1950. And right from the start, Saab engineers approached car design like aircraft engineers. Look at the shape. For its time the body is extremely aerodynamic, developed using Saab’s aviation expertise. Under the hood is a 764-cc two-cylinder two-stroke engine producing about 25 horsepower. See if you can spot the semaphore signals as I walk by this way too quickly and check out the interior. This is Saab’s forgotten sports car. Hej SaabFaans, These are two Saab Sonett IIIs parked outside the Saab Car Museum. The yellow one is a 1972 Sonett III, powered by Saab’s 1.7-litre Ford V4 producing about 65 horsepower. Like all Sonett IIIs, it has a fiberglass body, front-wheel drive, and weighs under 900 kilos. Fewer than 9,000 Sonett IIIs were ever built. But look closely at the orange one — same generation, clearly track-prepared. So here’s the question, and I don't know the answer. What year is the orange Sonett? This is is the last car developed in Trollhättan by former Saab engineers. Hej SaabFaans — this is the NEVS Emily GT. Engineered at Saab’s former home, it’s a four-motor electric grand tourer — one motor in each wheel — producing about 480 horsepower in standard form, with significantly more performance engineered into the platform. It was designed around a large battery pack targeting up to 1,000 kilometers of range under ideal conditions. Multiple fully functional prototypes were built. It wasn’t a concept.
