🇺🇸Why do modern sailplanes use higher wing loading and smaller wing areas?🚀
Modern cross-country flying is all about speed between thermals.✈️
Typical cruise speeds can easily be 160 km/h or more between thermals.☀️
That’s why many modern high-performance sailplanes are designed with smaller wing areas and higher wing loading.
In this reel we show how wing loading affects glide speed and cross-country performance.💨

Why is soaring, learning to fly gliders, sailplanes (whatever you want to call it), so much fun?

How Gliders Stay in the Sky
Sailplanes climb thousands of feet without engines by riding rising columns of warm air called thermals, turning the sky itself into their lift.

Flying across Austria in 30 seconds without engine 🍃
Gliders have an incredible glide performance. In ridge lift, they can cover hundreds of kilometers without needing a single turn. :)
