WE DID IT! Saint Helena Culinary is born 🌻
What a night. Amazing people in abundance ❤️
Europe, but California. Saint Helena, CA. #europebutcalifornia #sainthelena #napavalley #californiatravel #slowtravel
Saint Helena, the remote South Atlantic island outpost most famous for being where Napoleon died in exile, is one of the more memorable trips I’ve ever taken.
Jamestown, the capital, is one of the most unique places I’ve ever been because of its insane geographical layout and very complicated driving! Have you been to Saint Helena or know anything about it?
From the East India Company to the liberation of tens of thousands of enslaved Africans, Saint Helena’s history is written in the DNA of its people. 🧬🇸🇭
We’ve officially added the Saint Helena Genetic Group to our Ancestry Composition Report!

👇 MORE CATS THAN PEOPLE IN CYPRUS?! 😸 That’s right - the small island nation of Cyprus is home to 1.2 million people and an impressive 1.5 million cats. Why so many? Legend has it that Cleopatra brought them over to get rid of poisonous snakes. Others believe it was Saint Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, in 326 AD.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It seems that, while both women might have had cats shipped over, cats have been an important part of life in Cyprus for far longer. The earliest archaeological evidence of cats being kept as pets (anywhere in the world) was actually found on this very island and dates back to 7,500 BC! 🐈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re a cat lover, add this spot to your bucket list: 📍Holy Monastery of St Nicholas of the Cats. This Byzantine church is home to dozens of free-roaming felines! I also met many near Hala Sultan Tekke, a beautiful mosque next to a lake full of flamingos 😍
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PS: Cypriot cats are very friendly, so if you’re allergic like me don’t forget to pack antihistamines 😅

The place of Golgotha and the tomb of Jesus, originally outside the city walls of Jerusalem, became the Church of the Holy Sepulchre through a series of historical events tied to early Christian devotion and imperial intervention.
1. Golgotha and the Tomb in the 1st Century
During Jesus’ crucifixion, Golgotha (“the place of the skull”) was outside Jerusalem’s city walls, as Roman executions took place in public areas near roads. Jesus was buried nearby in a rock-cut tomb, which belonged to Joseph of Arimathea (Matthew 27:57–60). After His resurrection, the site became sacred to His followers, who venerated it despite Roman persecution.
2. The Roman Suppression and Pagan Construction (2nd Century)
In 135 AD, after the Bar Kokhba Revolt, Emperor Hadrian sought to erase Jewish and Christian identities from Jerusalem. He built a Roman city, Aelia Capitolina, over the ruins and constructed a temple to Venus (or Jupiter) over the tomb of Jesus, attempting to suppress Christian worship.
3. Constantine’s Discovery and the Building of the Church (4th Century)
In 313 AD, Emperor Constantine legalized Christianity with the Edict of Milan. His mother, Saint Helena, visited the Holy Land around 326 AD and, with the help of local Christians, identified the location of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial under Hadrian’s temple. Constantine ordered its demolition and commissioned a grand church—the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The site was excavated, revealing what was believed to be Jesus’ tomb.
By 335 AD, the church was completed, incorporating both Golgotha (the site of the Crucifixion) and the tomb under a massive rotunda. It became a major pilgrimage center.
4. Destruction, Restoration, and Modern Church
Over the centuries, the church suffered multiple destructions and reconstructions:
• 614 AD: The Persians damaged it.
• 1009 AD: The Fatimid Caliph al-Hakim ordered its destruction.
• 11th Century: The Byzantines and Crusaders rebuilt and expanded it.

Jonathan is back in the news. World's oldest LAND animal.
I got it wrong when I met him. Apparently there are Greenland sharks who are older. Sorry to them.
I caught up with him in Saint Helena when I went to that extraordinarily remote island to see where Napoleon died. You can check out the documentary on History Hit TV.
So much effort, so much growth, and so much to celebrate. Congratulations to our students on earning their Cambridge certificates!

Surprised I actually convinced Em to do this 😜 I can't believe how heavy their shell is!
Fun fact: the oldest giant tortoise in the world is currently 192 years old! (That means he would have been 28 years old when Abraham Lincoln was elected!) This makes him the oldest living land animal. He lives on the island of Saint Helena, but there are many old giant tortoises in the Galapagos Islands too.
Our guide told us that giant tortoises can go up to a year without food or water!! Which I didn't even know was possible!

It’s time for the big reveal 👀🌍
After weeks of hints, riddles, and guesses… I can finally say it
I’m heading out on the Atlantic Odyssey with Oceanwide Expeditions ✈️
A journey across some of the most remote islands on Earth, including Tristan da Cunha, the most remote inhabited island in the world 🏝️
A place so isolated that very few people ever get the chance to visit… and one I honestly never thought I’d be able to experience myself
Along the way, I’ll also be visiting South Georgia Island 🐧, Saint Helena, and Ascension Island
And I honestly don’t even know how to put into words how excited and emotional I am to be heading back to South Georgia… my favorite place in the world
It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you leave, and getting the chance to return feels really special
I’m also so excited to be doing this in collaboration with Oceanwide Expeditions, a company I’ve traveled with before that specializes in polar travel and offers some really unique expedition itineraries like this one
This is the kind of trip people mean when they say “once in a lifetime”… and for the first time, I feel that phrase deeply
Not just because of where I’m going, but because of how rare an opportunity like this is
From the wildlife to the history to the sheer remoteness of it all… I know this is going to be something I’ll carry with me forever
And it all starts now ✈️
If you’ve been following along, solving the riddles, and keeping up with the early entries… you were part of this reveal 🫶
Also 👀 the giveaway will be dropping within the next hour or two…
Stay tuned
