Preach! Episode 8: featuring @mariashriver If you ask me to define spirituality in a sentence, I would say, “It is the sanctification of the mundane.” Almost all faiths have some form of prayer over bread, because if we can be grateful for bread, then we can be grateful for our other, greater blessings too. The spiritual perspective takes no small thing for granted. If we stop to think about it, every breath and gesture, all of earth and sky, is a blessing. Every person reading this is among the luckiest humans who ever lived. But in this age of anxiety and distraction, we often fail to count our blessings. To be unacknowledged, is to be disappeared. If we don’t count our blessings, our blessings don’t count. It’s like standing knee deep in a river and dying of thirst. After you finish reading this and listening to this sermon, walk into the next room or pick up the phone, and tell someone, “You are a blessing to me. You are a miracle for which I shall be grateful every day.”

I just think we need to remember that sanctification is a journey and we’re all ON it, you know? I have not arrived & I won’t until I’m face to face with my Savior. In the meantime, I’m doing my best to watch my mouth. I can’t promise it’ll all be sunshine & rainbows.

I’ve been thinking about the precious gift of repentance. Jesus Christ paid a terrible price so that He could offer us this gift. He could atone for our sins and offer us forgiveness and sanctification.
